Russ Andrews Shop Fire - An Opportunity to Help

Greetings all,

By now you have heard that Russ Andrews lost his shop to fire. His fit and finish tools and handle materials were in his house and were thus saved. But the building, machinery and anything that doesn't burn (like anvils!) were a total loss.

Above all, we are grateful that Russ and his wife were unharmed.

As Russ has mentioned, he fortunately did have insurance and will thus will not have to bear the cost of rebuilding all on his own. But as we all know, in circumstances such as this there is always a gap between any settlement and what it actually takes to rebuild and get things back to where they were. Which is going to take some time and no small amount of effort.

I know that that those who wish to help are looking for a way to do so, and that is the purpose of this thread.

One way is to donate through Paypal directly to Russ at russandrews@sbcglobal.net

I know that on Facebook there have been offers to donate knives for sale with the proceeds to help Russ rebuild. I'd ask that any such offers be posted here in addition to any other forum, both to maximize exposure and to provide one central location for the relief effort.

Thanks for reading, and thanks in advance to those who are able to lend a hand. Every little bit helps.

Roger

Roger: Done. Thank you.

The timing of two back-to-back tragedies in our community could not be worse.

There is no convenience in a tragedy, and there is hard work in reparation. Having a little extra cash can help.

Russ: I wish for better. Please keep us posted.

Thanks gents. Gary, that is a terrific bowie! Is that to be a straight sale or are you taking bids, and if so when will bids close?

I think accepting bids would probably be the way to go. You chose the closing time.

Thank you Peter!

An auction it is then Gary! Weekends tend to be slower on the forums so let's keep this open until Wednesday coming and I will get the ball rolling with a bid of $300. :)

Thanks for putting this up Roger.

Thank you all for all the generous, and most welcome donations...! We're quite fortunate

that neither of us, nor any of our pets were caught in the fire......and to be a part of a community

such as this...

Presently, there are more questions than answers.....but I'll post more info as I have it...

I'd be happy to help out in the way I know how, if anyone's innerested in collaborating, please drop me a line :)

The fire apparently started in the ceiling due to a short.....cause
unknown.....

Because of the FD's quick response, none of the propane or various oils were involved.

We'll be replacing all power tools, and I've started a thread in shop
talk, asking for info on new forging presses.
