russian knives

hi ok,,,,,,,,, here goes.........

we mae .. maybe 100s of models of knife,, and of these models of knife we make them in several different steels,a dn different finishes , and different handles , ect ect,, it realy can confuse the people selling them if they arnt sittling here in the factory.......
so i guess you asked the rite guy... :) i think i can help you on this ine..

ok the d.v. knives are nromaly made in the following steels 40x13, 65x13 and i guess these were made in some of them french z60 cutlery steel we are using now.. ,
theyve also been made in hvg and x12mf steels,, x12mf is as d2 but if forged fomr rod,, hvg is another , goos steel lots of vandium and chrome , but not hard to charpen , rusts ,, but not deeply,,

the knives kostya would have would be in the 65x13 steel i would guess, this is like aus 6 japanese steel, rather tough , hardened in the big knives to 57 rockwell or so,,
the z60.. maybe it way a typo,, or maybe the knives were mad ein z60. id realy have to look at the order recipt to know that,,
it is as the 65x13 , but with more alloys,, more vanadium aspecialy,, it is used in meat cutting blades in meat factories,,

now the d2. in russia x12mf it is good,, as the normal d2..
also currently we are ot make the knives form u8a carbon steel with a differential temper,, and a groove in the blade,,
ok, to be honest if you want a knife in a carbon steel you best order it and then when we send kostya knives he can send it to you,, id reccomend a lower carbon steel blade like 65G, low carbon,,, .56-.7 which is springy, it is used in car axels,,, and hardened to say 53 rockwell and convex ground it would be very good for choppinf and would handle any hard wood you could find for it to cut,

the serial knives are hollow ground,, and the back edge is for splitting bones and such , but it requires some sharpening as the come with the black chrome coating so it hasnt the edge compleated on the back,,

ok about the d.v 1 and 2 knives,
yes they were sold to the military,, in a one off order some 100s or so, this is how the knives appeared, we had them ordered the soliders drew them and thye were made,
after we just kept sellling them,
the military guys order many crazy things ,, this is just one of them, officialy the russian military has no issue knife at the moment and the soliders are issued with all sorts of commercialy produced knives that they or the government buys,
i think there is some police unite in moscow who uses tops knives for exsample.

the d.v. stands for dalny vostok,,, , it is the russian far east, and the unite that orded these knvies wanted them as choppers or such for using in the siberian taiga when they returned form the north caucasus,,
i think it was there idea of making a big fighing knife that they could chop things with ,, .

no i havent any fotos,, dont realy think things like this are kept track of,,
but proably the order recipt is some place around here.........

i think the originals were in are carbon spring steel .. and also , some in a 425 type of steel,, not to hard and rather springy
anyway weve made stranger knives for the military than this,

ok now to the AKC..........

well there is several reasons for this,, one is the knives he has he took back some 3 years ago and they were cheaper then , many older models and such ,
2 ,, he is buying them at a very discounted rate and then selling them under the retail price,, as it is a free market economy he may do this if he wishes, but as kostya is the distributor in australia then he must keep to the retail price , allowing other shops selling these knives to maske the 100% + tax that they require.......
hope that clears this up for ya......
id say to be honest the best buy for your money is the large modle of pheonix , it has a double row hand stiched heavy leather sheath , and i think it sells for 220 ausse $ or so,, its a good knife for the money, and it makes a good pig sticked, and you can dig with it well..
atleast thats what the soliders here use it for...
