[Rust] Nalgene Stainless steel Standard Guyot bottle 38oz

My wife has 2 KKs that have been in constant use for years with no problems.

I don't know if this is a problem, but contact with carbon steel can cause stainless to corrode and pit. That's why stainless is "passivated" after machining. Just a thought.

If you have stainless pots and pans, the instructions usually tell you not to use steel wool scrubbers.

Does anyone have any experience with the Brunton aluminum bottles? They weigh 1/2 as much. Since they are coated I assume you cannot boil in them but is there any reason you couldn't otherwise boil in an aluminum bottle?

If you weren't going to boil in the bottle but just wanted metal over plastic it may be a good option.

Chlorides are really tough on stainless steel. Many of the food processing plants have to be because of the chloride in common salt and bleach (one of the best sanitizing agents). In the pharmaceutical industry, they passivate the insides of tanks and piping. This creates an oxide layer which helps protect against corrosion.

I always see a lot of corroded stainless steel around swimming pools.

If you wash it out and let it dry on a regular basis, it shouldn't be a problem.
