Hi,

I have just received my CF Millie from Newgraham, and want to make you guys a question.
I don't have any experience with BG-42, although I know it's a premium steel. My millie came with some rust dots on the blade and inside the serrations at the back. Nothing serious, but it's my first Spyderco that came like this.
Note: I'm not talking about that red or rust color from the inside of the hole, that looks like temper...

But it's a hell of a knife...

My CF BG42 Millie also has this reddish discoloration on the finger choil. It is not progressing and it is not rust, it looks like some knives have this discoloration due to a laser cut, it is known effect. This is the only Spyderco out of mine 20, which has it. It doesn’t bother me; this Millie is a very nice knife.
There were couple discussions about it.

Good luck and congratulations with your Millie.

out of the 5 mili's i've owned, i had one that had the exact thing. but, it was an older version, i'm guessing the ats34 or cpm440v.....not sure

(PS. i just buffed it out, gone...fixed)

Excuse my poor English. They're all plain edge all right.
I was talking about the finger choil at the back of the blade.
But, thanks for the replies. I've got all my answer on the links posted.

My FC BG42 Military also has the reddish discoloration in finger choil and in thumb ramp grooves.

to the best of MY knowledge, it actually IS some sorts of oxidation/patina, since in most of the cases i've seen somethng like that, the 'stuff' is usually on the back side, and also mainly on the contact points between lock-kick-choil-tang-pivot.

my advice is: keep em clean and dry, take care of your knives.

works for me anyway, YMMV

That is caused by the processing of the knife and is not rust...I believe it is from the laser cutting. It has been discussed a few times in the past but is difficult to do a search about...I guess under "rust" searching this forum only would eventually get a hit on the matter. ;)
