Rust resistant steel?

Aside from H1 steel are there any steels that have a very high resistance to rusting?

thanks.

The non hardenable stainless steels (forgot the technical term) are much more corrosion resistant than knife blade steel.

As a rule of thumb, the less carbon in the alloy, the greater the corrosion resistance. 420J is pretty corrosion resistant. Won't hold an edge well, but it is very corrosion resistant.

I wouldn't say very, but polished VG-10 resists rust well with little care. More than ATS-55 and CPM-S30v in my experience. There are also those other metals like Stellite and Boye Dendritic Cobalt that resist rust well.

There is a French stainless steel known as X-15, which was developed by Aubert & Duval and is supposed to be able to resist corrosion in very harsh conditions such as high humidity environments and saltwater. Boker has used this steel in a number of knives, and Benchmade has stopped using H1 in favor of X-15.

I'v never had rusting probs with 420HC, 440A or 440C, 154CM, VG10, or S30V. Maybe I just take good care of my blades. :)

As far as knife steels go...I've found GIN-1 (G2) to be very rust resistant. On the high end of steel edge retention, I've had quite a bit of use with 154CM. Other than salt water exposure, I've had no rusting other than some minor spots in the jimping, where the water would collect.

Benchmade has stopped using H1 in favor of X-15.

I wasn’t aware that Benchmade had ever used H1, or for that matter any manufacture other then Spyderco. Can you tell me what models they used the steel on.

BM has always used x15. It is basically the same as H1 only spyderco has rights to H1 as a title I think.
