Just wanted some help with suggestions on how to stop my stripped INFI from rusting. I have it coated in mineral oil and it still rusted. I have to take a scotchbrite wheel on my Dremel to it every week. It happens in like 2 days while being coated in mineral oil in a kydex sheath. Any suggestions that I can just go and buy at a local hardware store or what ever. Thanks
Pics were added so check them out.

I just did my weekly routine with my scotchbrite and Dremel but in a few days there will be light rust all oner it. I know I stripped it well with the Decarb layer off.

I kinda wish I never stripped it, but there's no way I am taking my comp finish out and using it. I use the same mineral oil on my comp finish and they are stored in the same room and there's no rust on that one.

The knife shouldn't be rusting at all. Especially with a thick layer of mineral oil. Did the blade heat up a lot with the scotch brite wheel? I would contact Garth and see what he says, although I'm sure he will be by here soon.

You said you used the same oil on the other blade too correct?

I don't even coat my infi and it doesn't rust.

My first guess is that you didn't get all of the decarb off. In my experince it takes abrasives like sand paper to get it off, and it can be a bear. It's even more difficult on hollow ground areas, like the primary grind and fuller on the TGLB.

Yup same oil on other blades. And no it never got hot and barely warm to the touch. I was causeous as to not get it hot but I heard it would have to be like 400 + to even come close to ruin the heat treat on INFI. Just what I heard

amflud did you see the pic off the stripped blade? It looks shinny and very close to a comp finish. Would a Decarb layer be seen with the eye or is it a dark color ??

All the comp finish blades I had were covered with decarb. It is possible to polish decarb to some extent.

Maybe I did not get it off and that's why this one and only this one is rusting so fast with oil on it

This is interesting. It looks pretty clean as far as decarb goes. Is it rusting in the tool marks or all over?

I do recall either Garth or Jerry, I think it was Jerry, posted a few years back stating that rust in the decarb layer will not make it's way down into the INFI underneath. It will just stay in the decarb layer. I'm not sure if that makes any difference to you. If the rust bugs you then maybe Garth will have some suggestions for you.

Have you ever used your scotchbrite wheel on any other carbon steels? Maybe whats causing the rust are minute particles depositing onto the infi steel.
