Hey guys,

I am working on a couple choppers. They just got back from Brad @ Peters Heat Treat Inc. He sandblasted them at 120grit.

Would that be ok to paint over, or should I still do a light primer coat? I would give them a good cleaning prior to coating of course.

After reading up and seeing a few blades and makers recommend the Rustoleum Hammered finish paint...I want to give it a shot.

If any of you that have used it, please feel free to post pics of your blades and different color options!

Before anyone says it...yes I know of Gun-Coat, DC etc......But I have been hearing good things about the Hammered finish:thumbup: And I like the textured look.

Thanks in advance BF.

Just be aware that you will see the primer when the paint chips, so choose your primer color carefully.

They probably apply oil after grit blasting, so be sure to get it clean before painting. Dawn and water work well.

The idea of paint on a knife kind of makes me cringe a little. But I have a couple firearms I've painted for practical reasons. *cringe*

Thanks for the reply, Nathan! Yeah I agree with you on coated blades....but after seeing some gray/black and tan/blk hammered finishes It really appealed to me. Once I or a customer gets to bashing the finish I am sure all that changes.....but then just strip it like most people do there INFI etc and start over?.......Like I said...just want to give it a shot, I think it looks quite nice for a hard use chopper design etc.

Hope it stands up like everyone says it does.

Thanks again, Nathan!

I will guess here , it won't make it through one session of use . Be interesting to find out though . Glad you are doing it Warrior , let us know .

Hey bud,

LOL.....your probably right...but I have heard of a few makers having good success with it. Even if it does start to chip or wear....so did my FFBM, CGFBM and Dog-fathers.

I just want to give it a shot. I got some black today, just gotta finish up the scales and then give it a shot.

Cant remember his name...but another maker was supposed to be doing a finish wars and Rustoleum was in the line-up...havent seen an update yet?

Thanks for the good wishes....I might need it:D

Chris,

Another option is a paint called Hammerite. We use it on handrails in a commercial application that sees a ton of both hand and foot traffic. We have to touch them up about once a year in the building I work in and we have about half a million customers in our building annually. You can find it on the web.

After reading up on it, sounds like an interesting product.

Might have to try some out for the hell out if!

Thanks for the info bud, I am always looking for new products to test out:thumbup:
