Rustolium??

TMW-I haven't tried rustoleum on any blades, however I have used it on some firearms. I have used it on an older Remington 870 and a Mossberg 590, and am very happy with the results. Here's my method: I steel wool the metal to be painted, clean with rubbing alcohol, mask, paint with auto primer (2 coats) then the rustoleum (2-3 coats) then a matte polyeurothane sealer (two thin coats). Give each layer 24 hours to dry (this is the hardest part!), and take your time with a steady hand. I keep looking in the paint section for "Tactical Black" but haven't seen it yet!!

Don't know about its use on a blade, but, I've used it covering aluminum on my fishing boat. Scuffed the surface after cleaning, used the "heavy rust" primer and coated it with a color coating. Scuff resistance may be the factor here when considering a blade.

Abrasion resistance is much lower than the bake-on paints; expect it to get scratched the first time you use it for anything much more strenuous than opening a letter. On the other hand it's easy to renew.
