Rusty H1?

I'm not saying it couldn't happen, but I'd have to see "rusty" H-1 firsthand & in person to believe it.

"Rusty" mind you.... not a chemical reaction or something that had rusted sitting against the H-1 and 'stained' it.
But, H-1 that had rusted because of exposure to the elements... especially saltwater.... even if the H-1 had been totally ignored for an extended period of time..... Only seeing would be believing for me.

I have a Spyderco Atlantic SALT that has been exposed to saltwater on a daily basis 14 of the last 24 months. It is carried clipped in my right pocket and has never been rinsed in fresh water or cared for in any way, save a drop of oil on the pivot twice.

There is zero rust or corrosion of any type on this knife. :)
Go figure.......... ;)

It's not rust. It's a chemical corrosion from putting it wet in pure chlorine, as tonydahose stated. Even a non-magnetic grade of stainless steel would not survive without pitting in that environment. I think Titanium and Talonite would even corrode under those conditions.

I'm not talking about this one SOLEIL: Pictures here / This was clearly stated as chemical reaction by tonydahose. He mentioned nothing of rust.

I am talking about this one... by McGizmo Post #27:

This is the one the OP was referring to also. McGizmo claims it is rust.
Maybe you missed that part?

I'd would have to actually see it in person to believe it, knowing how my personal H-1 blades preform. ;)

Sorry, my bad, skimmed through the post too quickly. :foot::o. It certainly does look to be rusted with some pitting. I would love to see something like that in hand. I have used my Pacific Salt here in the Gulf for years when fishing. Usually just rinse it off with the rest of my gear, no problems so far.

No problem at all.......... :) :)

The Gulf..... and your location is the "Redneck Riviera" ???????

You aren't in Orange Beach or Gulf Shores Alabama are you?????

I am up in Lillian, AL on the North West side of Perdido Bay as we speak..... where are you??? If I might ask.

I've seen similar looking effects on orange plastic debris floats in the river, so similar I fully expected him to mention he goes out in fresh water. It really does look like its only taken place on the very surface, what I first thought was pitting looks more like water drops now. Certainly an interesting occurance.
