So i went in my toolbox to get my Skeletool, it used to be one of my favorite EDC's but got sidelined for a long time. This is what i found. Its been in my house not in a overly humid environment. Im beyond baffled so i emailed Leatherman they said to send it in its going in the mail tomorrow. What do you guys think? (sorry about the pics)

I think that Leatherman has the best warranty, that's what I think.
In fact it's beyond warranty.

It's a free repair and exchange service.

Any problem I've ever had, they just gave me a new one no questions asked.

Nothing comes close to that kind of service. Not even sure how it's sustainable, but they do it.

Any chance it got in contact with plumbing flux while in that toolbox, or just beforehand? Flux can cause corrosion like what's in your photos.

Not that i know of. Im a mechanic so its a good chance of a bunch of other stuff but ive always been good about cleaning everything before putting it away.

Ive had nothing but good luck with them in the past. im just concerned as Bill mentioned it looks like it came in contact with something and im just not sure how they react to user stupidity lol

Maybe some fumes from something got to it. Since it was over a long time it wouldn't take much. Even a rag with something caustic.

My guess is that their service costs are covered by the high prices they charge for their products, and the fact that most them are seldom or never used. That's one of the little secrets in the industry ;) . Also, word gets around and it's good promotion. It sure works for me.

Couldn't have said it better. That's the reason I use and abuse my LMs without any fear. Did some nice bird houses today!

Great link Power. That was a awesome read. He should of sent it back to see if they would warranty it.
Edit: I just realized that was you power. Great idea.
I started to clean it up but then realized that the long spring thats built into the frame that keeps then tension on the bit holder was barley attached and it broke off when i touched it.

I agree just cause the small precentage of people here take advantage of their services theres 10 times that amount that dont and 10 times that amount that got one as a gift and it sits in a drawer.

That would have had an interesting patina if you had chosen to take some steel wool to the rust and then oiled it up afterwards. Rust makes for interesting "scars" when it is removed.

Could be any number of caustic things spilled on the knife , then left alone to do it's thing.
