Ryan Weeks/Loriendesign Edgeout Project 2015

Sorry to hear about your Dad's passing, my condolences and hopes that you're able to rejoice in the memories.

Love everything about this project, not least of all the great cause. But I'll also add an extra vote for the leatherwork - the sprocket/cog and cyclist both rock mate! Cheers...Pete

Firstly, thank ALL of you for your kind words regarding the knife, sheath and overall project. More importantly, thank you for being here and for helping me through a difficult time in my life. I don't like to talk about my problems very much in general. This forum's been a catalytic venue, generating an energy which is helping to disseminate the various new experiences I'm experiencing.

Secondly, this thread has taken a major drift. I'm sorry for that.

Thirdly, I sent the knife, the David Brown sheath, (which I've suddenly, horrifyingly become aware of the fact that I didn't put a picture of in this thread! I'll fix that) and this scrap of leather off so that it can be a part of the USN Gathering next week. For those attending, I hope that you handle this knife. The idea of having many hands touch this knife is poetic to me at this point. So, don't be shy! Spend some time with Ryan.

Fourthly, I've come to the realization that one charitable act from my efforts in the cutlery world per year is not enough. I practice charity in my day to day business very often, and almost every day in small doses. Apart from Edgeout Projects, there isn't much that I use my cutlery industry endeavours to benefit. I've received a lot of support in the cutlery world, and I'm not really in this for the money yet, so I feel a strong urge to pay it forward. Particularly at this moment in time, never more so, in fact. So I'm thinking on doing one unique collaboration per year to celebrate Charles' humongous spirit, that benefits the spouse/partner of those who are left to cope with their partner's demise, focused on veterans and mental health support in particular. I'm sure such a charity exists, but I haven't yet looked into it, since I'm coming up with this as I'm typing it out.

I'm pretty sure that's about all I had to say. I'll try and get some photos of the knife and David Brown sheath up together as well. David's sheath is superb- no rattle, tight grab and ergonomic thumb release, and he donated it to the Edgeout Project as well, David!

Edgeout Projects 2015 will come to a close later today, where the winner of this fine knife will be picked!

Thank you all for your support :)

The winner of this year's EdgeOut Projects knife was Zach Wood! Way to go, buddy!

Over $850 was raised by this year's raffle, and that money will go to Bikes4Kids Utah. I reckon they should be able to put 3 or 4 kids on bikes this year with that cash, and I'm super stoked by that :)

**********

I'd like to mention about my Dad, as his passing occurred during the course of this year's project, and thus affected it; On Friday, our family will be attending Port Angeles' monthly ceremony which honours veterans since passed. If you are in the area, and feel the inspiration to attend, it would be great to see you.

When Charles and his wife of 30 years packed up a trailer and headed west from New Jersey in order to be near to his only family- us- he thought he had beaten the cancer brought on by exposure to Agent Orange during the Vietnam war, only to find his body riddled with cancer upon his arrival. He lasted about a month before the dissolution of his bones due to the cancer led to a calcium buildup in his brain, ultimately causing his death.

Along the way from the east, Charles and V had many encounters, and the one which had the biggest impact was at a gas station, where Charles met a veteran with the group; www.warriorswatch.org who he, (as was customary for Charles) thanked for his service. The fella on the motorcycle and Charles talked for awhile, embraced, and the the rider gave Charles the medallion pictured. It was one of Charles' most valued gifts. Among the other gifts he valued is the khukuri and dagger pictured below. Both knives were gifts from me. I just got that story yesterday, and the medallion- which I plan to include with his remains upon interment.

I am looking forward to thanking my father for his service, in all regards, this Friday, and the opportunity to say good bye at a service where he would feel honoured.

Thanks to all who supported this year's event! If you feel inclined to be charitable, please send Bikes4Kids Utah a donation. When it comes to bikes, a little bit goes a LONG way!

How the heck did I miss reading this thread!?!?!?!

The rock I live under in apparently much darker than I believe it to be...

Awesome stuff, bro.

I agree about the charity thing. Let's talk.
