Detroit is now ranked one of the 10 most dangerous cities in the world(by CNN)
any plans to make a dangerous places video here, you can use my house for camp, even put one of your stickers on my picture window:D.just help me repair any damage to my house caused by your interaction with the dirties.such as bullet holes & fire damage or burial of a loved one:thumbup:'
if it helps I do have a HEST:D

That really is scary, although I do enjoy the sense of humor you have about it.

Not to get political, but how does Michigan (and the city of Detroit) rank regarding firearm and weapon policies? My family is looking to move to Ann Arbor in the next year and thats only 40 mins from Detroit

I did kinda did laugh at the thread, but I know just how dangerous Detroit is and how the city is/has been falling apart. I've read many articles and seem many documentries on what has happend to Detroit and how it's become almost a "third world city". I give you mad props for staying there and living through what that city has to dish out daily. After I read your post I actually though that it might darn well be a good place for RYP to visit and document the collapse/troubles there.

In Mich you can carry with a ccw no problems,3 inch blade is what every one says you can carry, the law reads if you commit a crime with a blade 3 inch's or more it's a felony.(dearborn has a one inch knife law)no double edge at all no switch blades.most of Ann arbor is pretty nice lots of free thinking big brains and the hash bash if your into that, and the wolverines.Detroit every day is the weed crack & heroin bash. I'd say most of the people carrying don't have a ccw.I have some rely good neighbors we look out for each other.I'd say Detroit is a dirty angry hateful place that needs the Lord & keeps your survival mind set very sharp cuz almost anything can happen any time.I moved here because it's the neighbor that my church is in this is some very rocky soil.
I'm right on the border of dearborn what you could call the good part

Do you have a link to that article? I'd be curious to read it.

I don't know how to post a link but if you Google Detroit most dangerous city.you will find it.

Did anyone read all the stories from last year about some people in Detroit planting small gardens in any patch of grass they can find? It looked like something from a third world county. At least they’re making attempts to provide for themselves I guess.

Detroit has to be one of the biggest armpits of America.

I've lived 50 miles from Detroit most of my life, and since the 80's been going up to...through, and all around the Metro area for work most every day......I've met a lot of people (suburban types) who never go "down town....or don't know how to get from one side of the city to the other....Exidor, you sound like one of them.
Not all of Detroit is bad.....I think we can all agree that one of the keys to urban survival is knowing which neighborhoods you have no business being in.

It seems like I hear more horror stories about Detroit from people who live in places like NH, or CA ...or from others who have never stepped foot there, than I do on the radio or the local newspapers.

AA hash bash?? Hilarious...that smoking lamp went out in the 80s too...I should know, I was there. You can't even light up a cig in most places in AA much less a joint.

It isnt that bad if you know when to walk and how to talk.

Very good point.....probably the key to survival in any environment:thumbup:

Yes, they were doing this to make something positive of the empty lots left when they razed burnt out buildings, a sign of good people IMO.......as for the "armpit" remark....well, I've already covered that in an earlier post....

I did read that Adam, I couldn't believe how bad Detroit had become.

I work and go to school in Detroit, live 4 blocks outside of city limits. I certainly don't believe that it's one of the top 10 most dangerous cities in the world for most people. Now if you're an african american youth caught up in the drug game then yeah, you'll probably end up dead. If you have some street sense and some common sense you can navigate Detroit just fine. Might you get held up or your car stolen? Of course (both have happened to me), but this could happen in any major city.

Like the previous poster said, know when to walk and how to talk (I'll add how to dress) and you'll be just fine. Just seem like you know what you're doing and be comfortable doing it all while not standing out in any way and you're unlikely to have any problems.

I would also like to stress for those of you considering visiting that downtown and midtown (Wayne State) are both very safe areas (well comparatively) with a lot of police presence. It's the residential neighborhoods that ring the city that are the real problem areas.

And if anything I feel that downtown and midtown have gotten better and safer over the last 10-20 years.

I am in Kabul now but let me know when the taliban start showing up!

I have to go cut my grass and the two empty houses next to me.I;ll be back for more fun:thumbup:

I've worked in and around Hunter's Point and Bayview for quite some time.
In my opinion, the most important part of urban survival is how to carry yourself:

Never look like you're on guard, but "see everything, admire nothing."
Don't visibly carry weapons, but walk like you're packin' heat.
If you're taunted (i.e. "Wassup white boy!?" I get that a lot) look them in the eye and nod your head. Show them that you're willing to interact more, but YOU choose not to.
Don't show emotional weakness. Keep your head up and chest out. These idiots THRIVE on your weakness.

Hope it helps with your Urban Survival. Don't get yourself killed.

(i.e. "Wassup white boy!?" I get that a lot) not once in my 6 years here I've been called that and I talk quite a bit to my neighbor hood folk not even honky or cracker.
