Been meaning to post these for some time, and now that lefthandblack has posted pics of the Chitlangi Bowie seemed like a good time. Wish mine were as good as his. Got this on 5/28 when it was offered as a one-off model by Sher.
Essentially a 15.75" 20 oz. Knife with an Attitude blade and chainpuri handle. The spine is a nice .375" at the guard, tapering down to .210" just before the final "V" at the tip. It has grooves just one way on the bolster, not both ways to make diamonds, and matching grooves on the handle. For some reason Kumar was able to fit the guard on the bowie without getting solder on the bolster, while this one has some solder where it is joined to the guard. Maybe the difference between soldering brass and steel? Very comfortable knife. The handle was cross hatched, and then so highly polished that some of the marks were almost removed. I need to recut those.
The guard is square brass like on the crow knife, and just as I did on the crow (pics on that later) I am going to grind it oval which looks 100% better.
The scabbard is a 3/4 version of the Attitude scabbard. It locks up tight in the scabbard.
Has a nice drop to the blade and is a good all around cutter and can easily do double duty as a chopper. Actually, come to think of it, take a 14" YCS Karda and really beef up the blade and add a Chainpuri handle to it and there you go.
It's a very good knife and feels great in the hand and balances very nicely; if it was a wider fullered blade I think it would have been snapped up way faster.
I have to agree that fullers look way sexier. As I mentioned, I hope to get a Chitlangi Bowie assuming we get more, and compare them side by side. This also fits into a RD7 sheath, but is one that I might consider getting an aftermarket kydex sheath for. I find the RD7 and Becker BK7 sheaths to be a bit too loose. At just 20 oz. it would do very well in a lighter sheath.
If you have trouble thinking of it in comparison to other HI models, the closest in length / weight would be the standard Bura Hanshee at 15.5" and 20 oz. However, the Hanshee has a blade length of about 10.25" and a handle length of just over 5", while the S-1 has a 9.5" blade and a handle that is full 6.25" long. Plenty of length, not too thick, and counters the blade weight for better balance.
