It is indeed a compression lock, thankfully.

The nested compression lock and jimping at the spine and choil make it one of the strongest

This is one design that I just don't understand. I can't think of a single reason to do that to a blade.

Skeletonization reduces weight, but the primary purpose, undoubtedly, is the aesthetics.
