S! knife mods!!!

Just like the title say. What mods did you guy and gals do to your S! GSO/SK-(insert model number here). And why did you do the modification.

I had Guy sharpen the spine verse the rounded over spine on the 1st gen 5.1. I then rounded the back of the handle by the pommel just a little bit to get it to fit my hand. Also add a big a$$ needle to the sheath with duck tape.

Swapped out almost all my 1st gen hardware with 2cd gen torx screws, simple, cheap and works well for cleaning under the grips without buggering up the old slotted screw heads.

I swapped out fasteners like Psybull did on most of my first gen models (appreciated all your help on that bud :thumbup: ). I haven't hacked on the GSOs much though, so let's see....

GSO 10 got new black textured scales. Damaged the originals and the sheath was black anyway.

GSO 5, removed the scales and rounded them off at the butt a little. Then bead-blasted them while they were off. Both mods made a world of difference in the feel IMO. Much more grippy and a lot less dig into my palm in some grips.

The 3.5 got new textured g10 scales and the new style fasteners (had to modify the shoulders in the g10, was afraid to crank on the new fasteners in the g10 to get them to seat down right). Again, damaged the original scales, and also wanted to try textured g10 and new fasteners on a blade that sees a lot of use in field dressing.

Both 4.1s got new fasteners in their micarta handles, easy peasy. Love the look and easier to clean blood and fat out vs the slotted style.

Guess I've been sticking with fastener and scale mods, rather than grinding on the steel. I wouldn't mind trying a swedge on something though, if I felt like I could get it ground myself evenly.

I need to take some pics that make it look like less of a hack job, but I used a diamond plate and rod to round the jimping and spine of my 4.7. Even if it isn't the prettiest, it feels really good even when carving for an extended period.

My first-run GSO-10 is still the "go-to" large knife for me.

After a recommendation, i added bike-tire liners beneath the scales, makes a huge difference - more than I would have expected:

A while back, I decided to swap the scales from the ruddy micarta i was using to the scrapped orange tero-tuff - I bet not too many others have a GSO-10 like this!

Back in the summer, this pine nearly took out part of my fence - Husky & S!K on the job:

A long time back, I gently rounded the flare at the end of my SK4 - I never liked the handle of the SK4/4.1, but am very-much looking forward to the revised edition!!

The 4.1s are nice knives, but the first runs had thicker edges than some might desire, they required a bit of back-beveling to bring out the performance

And then there is the spines on the new models - rounded over the jimping on my 5.1:

Man,, those wooden scales you do are just AWESOME.
You know your work is good when I start running over in my head what knives I have that I could get switched out,, too bad all the Busses are with flared rivets

^^They are usually a piece of tubing that is flared out into a tapered/countersunk hole. You could drill them out.

Ya those flared fasteners, just drill them out. A guy'd have to find some stainless tube to replace them when refastening the handle. I've set them two ways: One, in a vice using the head of a wood screw with a short #2 phillips head in each side, and two, in an arbor press with the flared dies. The arbor press would be the way to go if you wanted to get serious about it though. The vice system is okay for touchups.
