For Trade: Schatt & Morgan File & Wire C.B. Morgan Special Gunstock
TRADED
This is pattern #3 from series #3 of the File & Wire Knives, produced in 2005.
> 3.5” closed
> ATS-34 steel
> Blade stock is 1/8”
> Worm grooved goldenroot bone with nickel silver boslters and brass liners
> Half stop
> Original box included
I bought this here at BF from another member a few years ago. It’s been carried, used, and sharpened. Nice condition, has a good heft in hand. Pull is 4-5 out of 10, a little stronger from half to open than from closed to half. Good snap on closing. The spring is flush in the open and closed position, sits up a little bit at halfway. Good walk & talk. No wobble. Bolsters have scratches and scuffs.
The blade is pretty thick toward the tip and the edge bevel is too. It’s almost like an appleseed grind there. Given that, I leave the tip & leading 1/2” pretty well alone during sharpening and use it for scraping or a little twisting on things that a thinner blade might not handle as well. I have recently sharpened the knife on medium Sharpmaker rods for a good working edge. I must mention that there is a 1/4” long part of the edge that’s rolled or blunted and doesn’t seem to want to come all the way back around on medium rods during sharpening. Not a big deal for everyday work but I feel it should be disclosed. It starts at about the halfway point under the big S on the front etch. It isn’t something I could adequately capture on camera, so I hope that description will suffice.
PICTURES: I’ve done my best to illustrate the condition of the knife with 17 pictures, all of which were taken on 12/11/10. You can see them at the following link.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask.
Looking to trade for
> Medium Case CV stockman (the 63032 in chestnut bone particularly)
> Case Wharncliffe trapper in tested red bone
> Boker whittler
> Maybe a GEC EZ Open #25 in 440C
Nice users are fine. After the above mentioned knives it’s fairly wide open. I’ll take offers on pretty much anything 3” or over closed. I’m not much for conventional trappers with a spey blade though. Whatcha got?
