S.O.G, BM, Kershaw, or else?!

Well, being as I don't have a misses (I'm in college) I don't have that to worry about - what I do have to worry about is not having much money to spend on knives. =( If I did, I would just buy the 3 I liked the most. That is known as poor money management. =P

Try the Spyderco Manix 2.
The Ball lock is as sturdy as they come, and the ergonomics are sweet.
It is a little over the $70 limit ($82 most places), but you'd be getting one of the best knives out there for the money.
If you can find an old D'Allara drop point those were usually around $60 and feel very good in the hand, it's a very good utility oriented knife. The biggest complaint most people have with the D'Allara is the large handle.

If you want an AO from Kershaw the Spec Bump would be good. The blade steel won't hold an edge like 154CM but it's one of the best AO's on the market.

If you're not a fan of liner locks I would recommend a cold steel voyager in clip point or tanto point. They use VG-1 Stainless Steel and are very fast to open. They also have a very strong locking mechanism and are relatively inexpensive.

Another vote for the Griptilian. Call me weird, but I like the lightweight plastic handles, and the ergos are very nice, as is the Axis lock.
