S.P.O.T.s

Thank you Mr. Glesser for the infos and Carlos for the pics. It is true that there are several brands who offer such knives, but IMO there are just some basic variations to Mr. F. Perrin's "La Griffe". The SPOT, on the other hand, really has its own personality. It is nice and seems handy. The only thing I don't quite like are those small holes on the blade. Anyway, I'd carry one in a heartbeat.
Can't wait to see the side folding version.I heard some rumours at the other Forum about it :)

Sal, it looks like your Spyderco neckknife fits into the all-safe-easy-to-carry-and-legal category.

So much thought and efforts have gone into one little knife, I am most impressed.

Will give it closer scrutiny when it hits the market.
Congratulations on another well-conceived product.

I would like to see a straight edged version. Maybe something like a short wharncliffe blade.

Is the SPOT considered a custom knife collaboration like the Perrin Street Bowie or will it be like the Lil'Temperance, designed with input from martial artists or makers (i.e. Fred Perrin). Just curious.

Okay, I will take that to mean the SPOT is a knife collaboration. My question has been answered.

Hi Wpc, sorry, I didn't mean to be vague.

The design is a collaboration in the sense that Fred created the index finger hole with his laGriffe design. However, the balance of the design was created at Spyderco after considerable prototyping.

We could not say that it was a Fred Perrin design, but it would not be fair to say that it was a total Spyderco design either.

In most of our collaboration designs, we try to follow the designers piece as much as is possible.

That should confuse you even more.

Clear as mud...just kidding. That is why I made the Lil'Temperance parallel. You, Sal, designed the Lil'Temperance with input from the likes of Bram Frank and James Keating. Their input is evident in the bowie style blade, indexing points, legal blade length for most areas. The SPOT is most influenced by Fred's La Griffe style hole. Since the SPOT is not a pure Perrin design it cannot carry the Perrin name. I like Spyderco's designs that have been influenced by respected makers and martial artists in addition to the totally in house designs. Keep up the good work. All this talk of the SPOT makes me want one even more...now what about that folding design:D .

Is the Spyderco Factory Store going to be one of the first to sell the SPOT ?
If yes, when ? I'm so impatient...
anyway, thank you Sal for all this information you gave us.

The outlet store generally gets theirs the same time as the dealers. However, SFO has a quota percentage of available product in a effort to keep our dealers first.

is there any way i could get a picture of the sheath and someone holding the spot?? please?? thanks

Now up on New Graham's site:

Last one Micarta close up with sheath:(hope these are not too hard on you all's bandwidth) I will try and get better of the Micarta was having trouble because the finish is so dang shiny! it glared to bad but today will get some in natural light.

I just got my two SPOTs and they rock. They have replaced my Emerson LaGriffe as my neck knife. Fit and finish is great and the kydex neck sheath makes the package perfect. Kudos to Spyderco with this first entry into the neck knife market.
