I'm not sure I fully understand what problem you have without photo .I rarely finish a knife with a hand sanding in higher grit , but I never liked finish with new/fresh piece of sandpaper . I am talking on 1000-1200 grit .Whenever I’ve done that , there is always something I don’t like on that blade .Then I used worn/used sand paper for finish . And I start to like that finish on blade .No weird lines or anything else , nice even finish every time .Nick who?
Definitely going to watch Nick's videos again.
Has anyone encountered what I described?
I cleaned the shop up today, that will help with the frustration level at least
...... Some folks like WD-40 but I hate the smell......
Don’t put WD-40 on before you go swimming! (some people put it on there fishing lures)Blasphemer!!! I use WD-40 as my daily deodorant. When it's time to go to town, I put on a few dabs of Hoppe's 9. Ooooooo Lawwwwd!
The surface of the blade appears to be very slightly uneven, maybe try wider sanding sticks.this rough finish shows the kind of stuttering I was talking about, and after hours and hours of trying to figure out how to improve my technique, I realized that it's probably the backing on my sanding tools causing the problem. I cut a hockey puck into thin slabs and am going to stick that on my stick and see how that works out. Some of the testing I did with it last night seemed to solve my problem. Up til now I have a stiff piece of leather glued on and I think that it has too much give and is causing the chatter.
I do appreciate all your suggestions and advice, btw
made this tonight, used it a little bit and it seems to be solving the problem. Need the cold light of day to know for sure

I'm a strict teetotallerYou dont by any chance store your blades on magnetic bars?
No magnetic tables or jigs.... ie. surface grinder?I'm a strict teetotaller
no, nothing like that. Closest thing to a surface grinder in my shop is a granite slab, and the only thing magnetic is my charming personalityNo magnetic tables or jigs.... ie. surface grinder?
