S&W Homeland Security Knife

What the hell man.....I can't afford a Strider either. fvf is looking to get a decent blade that will perform the jobs he needs to do for an affordable price. I knew somebody would jump down my throat if I suggested Strider...well done mr. trooper and I would deserve it if I wasn't making jest. I think that the suggestion someone made about Ka Bar is very good. I have a Ka Bar Black Fighter and I love it. I might also suggest Camillus as a brand that makes quality affordable blades. Go on line and you'll find many dealers who carry both brands and they'll ship right to your door step. It will cost you only a few bucks more and be miles above S&W. I'm going to go put ice on my chin now....ouch.

I got a freebie SW swat folder and hated it not only for its poor quality, but its design. The worst part of it was probably the handle, which was heavy, blocky, and awkward. There was also a lot of blade play, and it never locked well enough that I trusted it. For an edc knife for the average city kid, it would probably work just fine. For their price, they really arent all that bad for just casual knife users. However, I would never use a sw for anything that my life could depend on, and I hate how closely that knife looks like the extrema ratio. I dont know how you use your knives, but if you do any form of heavy work with them, I would really recommend getting something else. Carbon is a much better choice for a knife like that, and as long as you dry it off, and oil it once and awhile it wont rust. I personally dont like tantos for anything but self defense. They have sturdy tips, and penetrate well, but dont cut as well, and arent as versatile as other blade shapes. I would reccomend a ka-ba. I have only owned one, but thats just because ive never had to buy another. They are very sturdy, and are versatile. There isnt a spot of rust on mine. They even offer tanto models, if you are sure thats what you want.

Just my 2 cents but id probably go with a Sog Seal or Seal pup depending on how big of one you want, though the Sog Seal sheath sucks. also possibly a Gerber LMF 2 as its a big heavy knife, great sheath and holds an edge pretty well.

all three of the knives i mentioned are under 100$

You and me are like the hi-end sports car crowd; we like to buy Porsche Boxters, Lotus Elise, and Corvettes so that we can show off for our car club buddies, and to make ourselves think we are bad asses and somehow better than the guy in the next lane with a Geo Metro.

LOL. :jerkit:
this sports car knut has one to get an adrenaline rush on his drive to work, not to think im a badass compared to the dude next lane over in a metro.

ps. s&w make good guns, not knives. ew.

..Me have both S&W Homeland Sec. (Camo and Green) and a Recurve HRT...all fixed blades. I fish in some remote places in Oregon and NY, walking through heavycover sometimes, but yet to encounter a confrontation with an animal (four or two legged) in my travels. For bushwhacking the S&W Bush Hog (Khukuri) blazes through all cover (I own 2...for left and right-hand side..J\K). I carry one, the camo 13 in. Tanto if I think I might need combat, bush and camp knife...the Bush Hog is not much of a thrust knife. I have hacked limbs...tree...using it like an ax, cut rope, dug crapper holes, sifted hot coals, opened cans of raviolis, soup and helped me sleep better at night (along with my 45 Mag.) at camp. The blade is neither chipped, bent or cracked...but it is scratched all to heck. I bought these knives for outdoor use, period. Due to the size of the knife it is cumbersome to sharpen and probably wear the blade down to a knob after YEARS of use, but Taylor Cutlery has lifetime warranty on these. I won't buy any of their folders, though.
