S&W Homeland Security Tanto

Batoning really stretches the strength of a knife to the limits. I love my Recon Tanto, but I'd rather have it in carbon steel. The S&W tanto, I imagine, would have no trouble.

are you seriously comparing that cheap china knife with a bad heat treat to the recon tanto? and batoning should never stretch the limits of a knife if done properly...
also, if you think frost cutlery makes good knives, you are sadly mistakin

Who's talking about Frost? If, by that "cheap china knife with a bad heat treat to the recon tanto" you're talking about the S&W, that's exactly what I'm saying. I think the Smith is exceptionally strong knife and it's easily sharpened and seems to hold an edge just fine. In fact, for the money, I think the Homeland Security Tanto is an outstandiing value.

As far as the Frost is concerned, yes, it's a cheap of crap, but if you're out in the middle of nowhere with no knife, the cheap Frost copy of the Smith will still be Better than a $100 folder.

if you were out in the middle of nowhere with no knife then you wouldn't have a knife, correct?

and WOW on the ignorance of the folder statement... id rather have a $10 opinel folder than either of those(frost & smith) knives in the woods

Well, what I meant is that if you don't have a knife of any kind, a cheap Frost would be of more value to you in the wilderness than an expensive folder.

A knife is one of the most valuable tools one can have. Not all cheap fixed knives would necessarily be equal. If it were a cheap Maxam "hunting" knife, for example, one could almost count on it breaking around the hilt (not being a full tang design); but the Frost, being a full tang, would be of value if for no other reason than its being a sharpened slab of crummy stainless with an edge.
