S&W knives? any experience?

I got a S&W folder for about $7. It was a pretty nice design, and flicked open very smoothly. But the liner lock started slipping pretty quickly.

My nephew, operating on a limited budget got a S&W fixed blade Ka-Bar clone.
The blade is 440HC which is the main good point. It's not really horrible...but just feels 'cheap.' The synthetic handle washers have too much flex for one thing, it just doesn't have the solid feel of my Ka-Bar. But as a knife for a boy on a limited budget...he probably could have done worse for $25 bucks.

lol he probably could have done better too...I also showed him some Mora knives, but he wanted something beefier and cooler looking.

I have nothing but bad experiences with S&W knives (folders). My expectations weren’t high, but when I started using them I visited the absolute depths of disappointment.

I was shocked about the excessive amount of blade play after a few days of (light) use with the cheaper models, and the most expensive one developed a weird problem that made it almost impossible to open… Basically the blade play was none existence to the point were I couldn’t open the knife at all.

I expect the occasional lemon, but this was like swallowing a cactus and then repeating the experience.

I have one of the above S+W extreme folders, at 10.5 oz. it's ridiculously heavy but feels well made. You have to loctite all your screws when you get a S&W, it's part of the game. I even installed bronze washers on this one, LOL, [I, knife geek]
I think the fixed blade S+Ws are better than their folders but this one SW folder seems to be OK.
