You should tag FortyTwoBlades FortyTwoBlades to make sure he sees your post. It’s the polite thing to do.

I think what he means is use the right tool for the job. Don't go chopping trees with straight razors and slicing tomatoes with a froe. Even if the edge is thin, use some common sense and KNOW that your edge is thin, so task the job appropriately.

What term are you talking about that's "reserved" for females? Are you being derogatory?

Yeah that's right, they're too thick. Some of these things are as thick as a damn hatchet! They're all twice as thick as they need to be. Every damn one of 'em. A little bit of flexibility from being thinner could be considered a strength under shock loads, you know. o_O

And what's with the obtuse Degrees Per Side edge angles? 20-25 dps? That's like a 45 degree included angle. That's like the corner of a box. It's not supposed to be a splitting maul.

They all need to be thinner. And sharper!

So , you like it thin ......behind edge of course :) I hope you will like this two ......;)
First one is 3mm on spine and grind to zero , HSS M35 and 67 HRC .This one still unfinished is same steel same grind and 2mm on spine .Booth will cut off balls on mosquito and he will not feel it :D

And I was stupid enough to try to hand polish this thing :(

Very nice. I love a hand polished blade. I’ve done it several times and it’s a labor of love, to be sure.

The blade is chosen based on the tasks it will be used for which run from slicing paper to chopping wood to preparing meals and possibly self defense. And don't forget display and admiration.

There are many knives that fit that last category that are thick with sculpted grinds and fancy materials and finishes that are not meant to be used.

Everyone gets to decide what use they want to cover and what knife they choose. Fortunately, this is the golden age of knives and there are plenty to choose from.

This cutie. Dubbed the "Grimalkin" or "grey cat". It's entering the prototyping phase with our manufacturing partner right now. Being made in the USA from 1095, and it should be quite economical for what it is. :)

its y'all. come on you're from the south.....sort of anyways.:)

if it cuts, I don't care so much about angles. my biggest beef with makers isnt thicker blades and edges, it's not getting somewhat even bevels and edges. I really dislike having to reprofile and even out brand new knives......so they can be easily touched up.

This!

This is a huge pain for me. I should be able to lay the edge flat on a stone and run it to the tip with the edge remaining flat the whole way. Preferably there will be a fairly straight section somewhere by the heel.

What actually happens on a shocking number of even high end knives is there are sections where the inclusive angle is different all along the edge and so on some parts I am not hitting the apex and on others i am only hitting the very apex.

I try my best to feel for these changes and a gradual even change is usually not a problem but when there is a sudden widening at the tip for example it is very hard to feel. Sometimes it will look like they ground the edge in two parts. One grind for most of the blade and a second grind at a totally different angle by the heel.

Its a bitch to reprofile these. On flat smooth edges sharpening is way easier.

Mecha Mecha -- I think you'll like a model I'll have coming out soon. It's a tough little 3" bladed utility fixed blade with a THIN grind. Made to be sturdy enough for hard use by folks who know how to walk the line of what a tool's able to reasonably handle while retaining an efficient cutting geometry.

Yes, please! :D

You have a point on the thicker knives showing off angles and bevels and facets in a more dramatic way. They can really look striking in a way that's hard to do with a thin blade.

Katanas is calling 42 a "tease," which I'd say is accurate for his sword thread which was a total tease-a-thon.

I just like to keep mum about things until they're pretty close to being ready for show time, because it typically takes something like a year or more (often as long as 3 years) to go from concept to production and I don't want to make folks antsy with waiting until it's a reasonable time to hype it up! :D

I seriously have SO MANY projects in the pipeline it's hard to keep track of them all. :p

Very few knives I enjoy cutting with more than the Police4

Nice:thumbsup:! I have been thinking about picking up a Police 4. How does it compare to Military in terms of slicing ability? I read somewhere that ergo goes slightly to Military.

The Police4 is definitely the better slicer with thinner blade stock, and possibly thinner behind the edge.

For me, the ergos are great on both (classic Golden vs Seki, if that makes sense). I love the PM2 but the Military has never quite grown on me the way the Police4 has. Not sure if that's partly because I found my soul mate in K390, but it also carries better and is thin thin thin!
