What is S30v compared to ATS34, how is it differant?
What are the advantages vs. the disadvantages of using this type steel?
Edge holding,sharpness,toughness,ease of re-sharpening?
Thanks,Dean

I'll tell you what I know about s30V. As compared to ATS-34, it should be more stainless, tougher, and hold an edge longer. ATS-34 will be easier to sharpen and it might be easier to put high (mirror) finishes on.

S30V's main strength is, well, its toughness. Since it and its non-stainless version are so tough, you can do a couple of things. Either you can have the same knife as others, but it would be MUCH stronger, or you can make a blade thinner while still getting strength, making it cut better. E.G., as compared to a standard ATS-34 AR you could make one the ame out of S30V and it would be tougher, or you could make one with a thinner blade than the ATS-34 version,s till get the same toughness but you'd have improved cutting ability.

S30V is a particle steel as well, while ATS-34 isn't. It should be a much cleaner steel that won't give any surprises in performance, thansk to the even dispersement of all the elements.

There are many on the forums here who know much more than me (I've never even seen talonite, never mind these CMP steels!) so I look forward to their input as well.
