Hi Chris! You've worked with S30V and M390 and looking at the composition tables those alloys seem to have similar vanadium contents. M390 has a lot more chromium than S30V so it ought to be more stain resistant but other than that is there a noticeable difference between the steels? M390 gets a lot of recognition for abrasion resistance but with the same amount of vanadium I'm wondering how much real difference there is.

There is a difference in edge holding between the 2, but S30V is no slouch.
I have an S30V neck knife right now that gets constant use and everyday I am very pleased with the performance I am seeing.
This leads me to believe that I have my heat treat for S30V right where it needs to be.
