S30V folder under 2.5" blade length?

I have a friend who lives in a jurisdiction where the maximum blade length on folding knives is 2.5".

Are there any decent folders with blades at or under 2.5", made with S30V steel, with a good utilitarian blade shape, and preferably under $75?

Spyderco Cat if you can find one.

That's honestly the only one that I can think of. You can find plenty of other folders under $75 and 2.5", but in different steels (Bladetech Mouse in 440C, lots of Spydercos in VG-10). Then of course there's the Spyderco Leaf Storm, but we're talking twice your price.

What jurisdiction, btw? Sometimes laws only prohibit locking knives over a specified length, but a non-locking knife like the Spyderco Urban or UKPK could still be legal.

Its in Massachusetts, and according to LEOs there, the 2.5" limit definitely applies to folders.

Grind something down to desired length?

I can't imagine doing that to any knife made of S30V. My conscience forbids it. That, and the fact that it would make a knife look and feel funny compared to how it was designed.

The Buck 342 short Vantage Pro, MSRP $80, has a short S30V blade - actually listed as 2 5/8", probably too long. Has there ever been a Kershaw Scallion (#1620) in S30V? My Spyderco Native in S30V rolls along on a plastic ruler to have a sharpened edge of exactly 2.5" in length, no matter what Spyderco lists it as having.

Actually MA itself doesn't have any restrictions on blade length. Boston has a 2.5" limit

There's professionals such as Tom Krein who can do this and the knife will look as good (if not better) than one from the factory. However the cost of the knife + the modification service would put any knife beyond your price range.

Cutting edge only doesn't count. You have to measure from tip to handle, because you have to assume a cop/court will too.

I believe Tom Krein stopped doing Sharpening Work

This might be a stupid question but why would people in Boston have a 2.5" blade restriction. This is Boston USA right?

People don't, laws do. The US isn't an "anything goes" country by a long shot. There are state, county, and district laws.

Worchester and springfield have similar length laws. Had a cop talk to me in Worchester once, didn't know then and said I was from out of state visiting, he said it applies to all folders, locking and non. But that might not be the actual law.

There is the buck 016 Lux Pro thats a pre order at knifecenter, thats about all I know of.

In my opinion, finding a blade that size with s30v just isn't going to be worth the hunt, they really don't exist in enough numbers to find a design you like, rather than one you need. But there are a ton of very nice small folders out there. Its not like s30v is some sort of light saber, its just steel, one with plenty of competition.

Blade-Tech Mouse if you can find an older one made in the USA, they are S30V. And they are 2" even.
The Blade-Tech Ganyana S30V is 2 5/8".
The Buck small Vantage Pro is also 2 5/8".
Spyerco Cat is listed at 2 7/16" so it would work if you can find one.
Spyderco Leaf Storm is 2 7/16".

It would be nice if Kershaw made a S30V Scallion 2 1/4", but they only come in 420hc.

The Buck Lux Pro does look nice.
