Decided to "lob" the top of the guard off on this jewel.
please advise with comments, good or bad.

Nice knife for sure. I personally like it a lot better without the top guard. They may be fine on fighters, big bowies and swords but, I just don't see it on a knife of this style. I had the same though about one of the nice ones you posted in the gallery. Your work is excellent. Jim
 
I think that's a beautiful knife. The only thing I would do different is shorten the bottom guard just a bit for aesthetics. Just my .02 cents worth.

I like the looks of the top gaurd, but it does limit hand position options.
I think the influence on this top gaurd on smaller knife thing came from the randall model 15 (I have always liked the basic look of that knife)
However, My taste is secondary. I want to build knives that people will like.

I think you did right. It has a short blade for a full sized double guard. It looks like a classic hunter now with a killer blade.
