s30v is so hard to sharpen

Will one of these work?

I dont know squat about sharpening and I ruined my glock knives with it

NO. I have one and its a waste of material. Get a good sharpener. DMT at least or get a decent strop with some diamond compound.

Yup. I use regular waterstones to do all the grinding and polishing but s30v will never get sharp enough to cut paper or cleanly shave without the use of diamonds. It still feel rough coming off my 8k stone despite Having a mirror polished edge. Once I hit it with diapaste it comes out screaming sharp. It's not really that hard to sharpen, even with an India stone. Stuff like Arkansas or pretty much any soft natural stone won't even budge it. The carbides are almost as hard as diamond and even harder then silicon and tungsten carbide.

Maybe we should differentiate between "sharpening" and "reprofiling". Different activities in my opinion.

I think you're right but the terms overlap. Nobody reprofiles a knife without the intent of ending up with a sharp edge. Maybe reprofiling and touching up work better.

I'm willing to bet it has a fancy (pain in the apple) edge. Maybe even a strange main bevel grind. I know it's kind of their thing but it's predominantly useless IMHO. I don't need a huge potbelly, giant recurve, drastic or weird tapers. That stuff can also effect ease of sharpening. Not to mention inherent issues with the blade it self. Bad carbide distribution, odd heat treat and even poor factory edge.

My old Kershaw 1640 vapor is still a pain to sharpen. (with diamond)Even though it's only 8cr13mov and I ground down parts to make it more straight edge. What exact Kershaw do you own?
