S30V or Elmax Blur?

I read a topic on the now closed ZT forums regarding ZT elmax chipping after cutting zip ties. And someone commented that zip ties are the closest thing to a cinder block. Lol. I'll try to link the thread soon.

I'd go with the Elmax. There are plenty of S30Vs in circulation. You can always pick one up later. Elmax in a Blur should be sweet!

Ah okay - my mistake. I had read that some chipping issues were attributed to heat treat. I have read that about the burnt edges, too. Thanks for filling that in.

It doesn't say anything on BHQ's site about it being a LE or only available for a limited time?

The Blur's a great knife and will be made even better with a Elmax blade.

Will definitely order 1 soon if it is a LE.
My bad :p I thought they where LE. I wouldn't be surprised if they where but it just didn't say, just like with the BDZ-1 Blur

Well.... crap......

Ordered. :D
BTW - Was there any official announcement for these two new knives? Or did they just appear at certain retailers?

Talked to BHQ today and asked them if these will be a LE and they said these will be a regular production knife..not a LE.

That is an incorrect statement. This is a limited run for a distributor and not a regular production knife.

Have used my stonewash, brown Elmax (1670SWBR) for several months for every day carry - it is for sure the best blade steel that I have sharpened.

The knife opens and closes with "authority".

Close, to a custom pocket knife (my opinion) as there is in today's market place.

Elmax a great knife steel for sure, it will not be a "sleeper" for long.

I've got it in three knives and love it. ZT 0770CF, 0561, and 0801.

Yeah, I don't see it as much of a sleeper.

A lot of big name manufacturers are using it, even if it's only in their sprint runs. It's a great all-around steel that I really like.

I have the elmax black wash model (torsion bar removed) and it is a beautiful when combined with the brown handle. I have owned the S30v as well but it was lost. I personally love both steels and do not notice a great deal of difference in the tasks I do with them. I would however give the edge (no pun intended) to the S30v. It is my favorite steel to date and going the way of 440c which is another great steel. The reason is that although I can bring my elmax edges back easily if I stay on them I find S30v an easier steel to sharpen. No real bad choice here. The newest iteration with the BW is I believe the best looking though if all the blurs I have owned.

I literally just ordered the Elmax version this morning out of curiosity over elmax. I knew that I was going to love the s30 version but there's a known reliable vendor blowing out the Elmax version for $83 on the 'Bay so I went for it.
