...did a search here.........didn't turn up much.
Can folks drop the name of their favorite Crucible dealer? I'm looking for S30V.

Thanks,
Barry H

Bruce DiVita is the guy you want to talk to at Crucible. He does the knife steels.

I've been getting mine from Admiral Steel. It all comes from Crucible, and has the crucible prints on it. So, quality's the same (I hope :) ).

6' minimum length and not precision ground, but heck they ship right away.

In fact I just ordered a 6' x 3" x 1/8" bar - dang is that stuff expensive. Took a few extra days for the custom size.

Because Bruce Devitta is the biggest pain in the ass to deal with, thats why. Last time I got steel from Crucible it ONLY took 12 weeks. Lord knows how much longer I will have to wait on my current order.

You are right about Bruce!!!!! He acts like he is forcing himself and doing you a favor.Last time I ordered from him I wanted 36" length but got two 18" lengths.Pissed me off,but by the time it FINALLY arrived I had to use it.I had a lot of extra grinding because the mill scale was really thick, also. From now on I'm ordering elsewhere, for sure! Bruce asked my location, which is about 70 mi.south of Davenport,Iowa. He said that my steel would come out of there, which led me to beleive it would come pretty quick.Duh! It could be he sits on the order for a while, too. With his attitude I tend to beleive this.I don't really beleive he wants to deal with makers.

I had the same problem. Only ordered from Bruce once. Lost the order - two weeks later re-ordered. 4 weeks later I got the wrong dimensions.

Crucible is a manufacturer. They just don't deal in small quantities that well.

Bruce was fine to deal with, personally. But, they don't seem to be able to handle us little guys.

Admiral sells it in only 6' lenghts and not ground. But a little time with the 60 grit and it's all cleaned up and read to go.

I have bought some 3/16 x 1 1/2 from tru grit and was pretty happy with their service. The steel arrived fairly quick and it was very straight, unlike some other places that I have bought steel from (sheffields). The s30v did have the de carb coating on it but I took it to a machinist friend and got it pg for $20.

BRUCE is a great guy, but like it was observed.....they would much rather sell 1/4 ton than five feet.............
I feel fortunate that they ship to me at all.

Great guys don't bald face lie. Bruce told me three seperate times over the phone that my order was "on the saw" and would ship the next day. Finally when I spoke to his boss, I was told that my order had been sitting in the back for eight weeks while other orders (made after mine) were being shipping out in days. I confronted Bruce and called him a liar. He finally admitted that he really had not been checking on my order status.

This was on a 80ft order, so not exactly small.

Also Tru-Grit had exactly the same problem with Bruce. Their order was no where near small.

Bruce's job is to deal with the knife industry. Big or small there is NO reason for his level of screw-ups and lies. Basically the attitude is "if you want our stuff you have to deal with our crap".

Wow! all this panning of Crucible - it seems to be a reversal of all the previous posting. Personally, my relatively small orders have been expidited quickly. Bruce is nice enough, though is limited in the time he can spend with you - perhaps he needs some help? My last order went through an office in Massachusetts (the state I live in). I lost Bruce's # and they gave me the Mass #. I got good service and a quick turnaround.

My only very minor complaints are pricing (you have to request a price for each specific steel/size) and that I don't always get an invoice and have to wait for my statement to find out what I've paid (which does not have a price break down).

Overall, I don't have a reason to change...yet. I would be interested to find out the price comparison between Crucible & Admiral for the popular stainless steels.... funny, the last time I read positive postings on Crucible, some folks were critical of Admiral..........
