I have been away for awhile and only posting and checking in once in awhile ( not daily and hourly like I used too and am now ). New job, computer problems, life in general, all that fun stuff.

Anyways, I noticed CRK went to S35VN !!! .............. How does this differ from S30V ??? I have had terrific results with S30V, but would like to know the advantages of the New Steel.

If this is rehashed, I apologize......But would like to know !!! Nothing wrong with a CRK Veteran asking right ...lol. :D

There have been a bunch of threads here on that, as well as in General, IIRC. Short answer: not much. ;)

I know I could google search it !!! Wanted to hear first hand from forum members is why I asked.

s35vn is supposed to have higher toughness while being easier to sharpen than s30v. How much tougher? How much easier to sharpen? You probably can't tell the difference.

That is The Readers' Digest version. :D

Lol!

I will have an S35VN bladed Sebe next week and plan to do a side by side comparo, probably ripping cardboard. I wouldn't expect to see a huge difference but want to do it just the same.

Chris is always looking for ways to make his already perfect knife just a little more perfect. I doubt you'll ever notice a different between the two, but such is his way. And sometimes his changes may not necessarily make everyone happier, but he certainly knows what hes doing.

My relatively new large Sebenza with S35VN seemed to be sharper out of the box than my prior two large Sebenzas in S30V.

Other than that - I haven't been able to notice any real differences during my usage.

And just as an S30V vs. S35VN update on the Zaan's, I just received my new Zaan, born on April 21, 2011 and it's still S30V. What a NICE knife BTW.

FWIW, I specified S35VN when I ordered a Zaan about two weeks ago. The wait may be a bit longer, but it's worth it for me.

I have had excellent results from my three S30V knives, but if Chris is changing over, there must be some very good reasons.

There are good reasons, but they relate mostly to reduced labor & materials costs required for a better finish rather than markedly better cutting performance.

So are you saying that I would be better served by getting the Zaan in S30V, rather than waiting? There are a few of these available from Internet merchants.

Thanks for the input!

HA! :D I can't find a single flaw in my Zaan. I ordered it in December..
