Here is an S35VN camp knife.

7" blade, 12" overall
.227" thick at the spine
stabilized oak burl scales

Comment and critique please.

It looks like a good camp knife. I like how you bevelled the front edge of the scales.

Do you have any other pics of it? A spine shot? The handle looks a little bit blocky but that might just help with the grip if you're chopping on something.

We don't see oak too often , yours looks very nice . I agree with the blocky handle. I always use the point for things but yours is way up there as far as angle. ?

Looks great.

Only one suggestion -
The bottom of the ricasso should/could be lifted to come up to the top of the choil and the tip of the scale. This would give the knife a little more shape ( sort of a camp/bowie look)and keep the heel out of the cut. This still should be able to be done in just a few minutes on the grinder..

I am with mete, that oak looks great. Makes me want to try some.

Here is a spine shot. Some sculpting to the handle.

Stacy- I might take that suggestion to the grinder....I am making another one just like this and I just ground it out so maybe will do to that one first to see how it looks. Thanks for the suggestion!

Camper/choppers can get away with beefy blades more than others, but I still like a bit of distal taper even on a camper.

Handle looks great. One suggestion would be to chamfer the perimeter of the circular butt ever so slightly to break the hard edge.

You're very much on the right track  Clearly you have thought this through, and only a few tweaks remain. :)

Looks awesome, bud. Agree on all the previous observations, but they're not criticisms, just subtle changes. Really looks great. LOVE the oak burl!

Nice and clean. Very clean ricasso. Maayyyybe could have used a bit of an arc along the spine/handle just for curve asthetics if we are nitpicking IMO.

Now you're getting there . You'll find that handle much more comfortable .Oak , as a coarse texture should be stabilized.

Looks good, would look great with a couple of tweeks mentioned above, good steel choice for a camp chopper nice and tough.
