This is a new Crucible steel being used in CRK's new kitchen knives. It is probably the mystery steel that was used in some of the Umnumzaans. There is a thread on another forum that discusses the new steel. Anyone have any more information on it?
 
Since the cat is out of the bag .....CPM S35VN....the "N" stands for Niobium.

I am also told that it will be used in future productions (great news)....I am also told that the 2 mystery steel (embelished) Umnumzaans are the only 2 that will be done.

So it will be used in future productions, but not in future productions of Umnums? What will it be used in then? Or maybe you mean that no more embellished Umnums will be done, not that the S35VN won't be used in Umnums?

I don't think we're going to get anything "official" until after Blade.

I don't know what i wasnt clear about.

Embelished means Decorated !! i was told that the 2 plaza cutlery umnumzaans were the only 2 decorated umnums that will be done.

I was also told that CPM S35V will eventually be the new production knife steel.

I wasn't trying to be difficult, there was just a bit of a hanging modifier in your post and it wasn't completely clear whether you meant that there wouldn't be any more: embellished Umnums, Umnums with the mystery steel, or embellished Umnums with the mystery steel. Thank you very much for clarifying.

I am excited about the possibility of a small Umnum with S35VN. Any information on whether an announcement of a small Umnum is imminent?
 
I do not want to sound negative, but if the RC is only 57.....I dont see it being a plus over S30v that is 58-59
 
did i read right, did someone say kitchen knives? So crk is doing away with one piece knives and getting into kitchen knives?

I suspect that when CRK uses this new steel in their folders they will heat treat it a little harder than RC 57. CRK's fixed blades tend to run a little softer (most likely for toughness) than their folders. Just my two cents.
 
N for Niobium ? [ Niobium ,Nb, aka Columbium ,Cb ] Are you sure it's not Nitrogen ? Anyway Cb acts like V in steel ,grain refiner and strong carbide former.
