I have been using only O-1 for awhile now and ready to move to a new chalange. Thinking about using cpm 3v for hunting and tatcital knives. Would like a openion on this steel from a users and makers point of view.
Hunting o-1 I use 5/32" x 2" at the widest poing blade 4" 7" Oal
Tatcital 3/16 X 1 3/4" at the widest point x blade 6" approx 10" OAL
Hollow grind to .35 and heat treat
Would this be the same for S3v or could I go to .20 and get away with it or less. I am working on a salt bath as we speak. Found a piece of stainless 4" thick on the sidewalls X 16" deep and 11" wide. has some kind of radio active sign on it but what the heck, good thing about living in the desert people through all kinds of good stuff away. plus the waste isolation plant down the road does not hurt. If you have a steel that may be a better fit for me let me know. I like a edge that I can get as thin as possible with out chipping.

I think you mean CPM3V [unless you mean S30V. That's a very tough steel !! Also difficult to grind so keep extra material to a minimum for HT. A convex edge would be more appropriate for that rather than hollow ground.
