Just got my CF S90V Military and it's met all expectations. Way back when I think I mentioned on this forum that my ultimate Military would be one in S90V. Thanks for listening.
So, how do you like your BG-42 Military compared to your S90V Military? Just wondering.

I have both and like them both a lot. They both seems very very sharp but I really haven't cut anything much to tell how the edge will hold up on one vs the other.

Never had BG 42, but I do have a Millie in CPM D-2 and S90V.

As much as I LOVE that wonderful CPM D-2, I must admit that the S90V is preferable. At least IMO! :D

Now if only I could get one in CPM M-4................:p

My S90V millie in cut tests seems to have more than double the edge retension of my BM mini-rukus S30V. The thing i like the most about this steel is the ease of sharpening, its strange on diamond and ceramic it feels like a soft steel but once you move to leather with micro compound its like polishing a bur off a rock. It took me about 4 hours of stroping to get a nice clean edge but OMG! it one of my sharpest knives and the strange side of that is it has a hard time spliting hairs.

I like S90V also, but I haven't lost my love for BG42. Like VG10, it does everything pretty well, and handles thin, polished edges better than most fairly high carbide steels. It might not last nearly as long as S90V wear resistance wise, but if you want a decently resistant stainless push cutting steel BG42 is still one of the best.

Like I said before BG42, VG10, and a few more ( like Vascowear and M2, and ZDP 189 ) will always have a soft spot in my heart, and knife box. Come to think of it, S90V will fit there too. They're all good. Joe

For edge performance I'm sure I will prefer the S90V Mili (I haven't used it long enough to tell). However, the BG-42 Mili has better fit and finish, and was the sharpest knife I ever got out of the box (beating out the ZDP Caly 3).
If I'm looking for the top performer in my collection, S90V. If I'm looking for the most enjoyable knife I own, BG-42.

And now that I have those two I can use the CPM D-2 Mili for work.

Hard to tell which I do like more... BG-42 is insanely sharp - even for a Spyderco, which is sharpeness by default. :) But I have a soft spot for CF... I still think my favorite is my old S30V Millie with CF handles :D

my S90V & BG-42 millies were pretty much identical as far as F&F goes
I do have a slightly preference for the BG-42 though not because of the steel but because it is my only millie that can be flicked open (not-so-tensed liner lock)

add some oil and work it back and forth for a bit, should make it easier to flick open.

My D2 Millie was like that too, really stiff. The BG-42 one was not as stiff, but still needed a bit of wearing in.

My black S30V one however was lightning smooth and snappy out of the box.

Maybe the DLC coating makes it smoother? who knows.
