Something I learned while I was welding years ago was that if you use the same belt to grind stainless steel as carbon steel, you’ll embed parts of that carbon steel in the stainless. We’ve had whole sheets of stainless rust because someone dragged a carbon steel sheet across it. Had to toss the whole thing out!
When we worked with stainless or aluminum, we would have specific grinding wheels for that task to prevent the issue from happening. It’s not fool proof because anything will rust over time, but it definitely got rid of the problem
What could’ve happened is that the manufacturer used their tooling on every kind of steel. It’s not a biggie, most companies will do this, but it could be an explanation!
