s90v

Inintially Crucible make it to replace CPM 440V (CPM S60V), So CPM S90V is excellent steel, rejected by knife industry because they can not handle it, actually because it is way better then anything else.
...

Thanks, Vassili.

P.S. It is only microtech able to produce limited edition Socom Elite, which I was lucky to get. I also have two knives out of it made by myself.

P.P.S. Here the Crucible data:

From these charts it seems that CPM 9V is the cat's ass. Both very tough and very wear resistant. What is it? Who uses it in knives?

I thought S90V was replaced by S30V. ???

If I'm wrong, let me know. I still don't care for S90V though. ;)

CPM S90V was CPM 420V. CPM S30V replace CPM 440V or CPM S60V which is different then CPM S90V (CPM 420V).

CPM 440V (CPM S60V) was steel which was widely used 5 years ago and everybody were crazy about it - it was very deserved excitement. All majot knife manufacturers had CPM 440V (CPM S60V) on their top models. Spyderco Military, Kershaw Avalanche... But then Crucible decide to stp producing it and offered CPM 420V (CPM S90V) to replace CPM 440V (CPM S60V), which industry rejected for their selfish reason.

If you do not have one of very few Mircotech Socom Elite or some custom knives then you are talking about CPM 440V (CPM S60V).

Thanks, Vassili.

Now while American knife-manufacturers refuse to work with best steel, American metallurgists can offer, Japanese again overplaying Americans (who instead moving production to China), with full bunch of their super-steel like ZDP189 etc which they accept to work with - it is harder, but they committed to do the best to their customers not to their pockets... Which works very well in long perspective - look at Toyota and Honda success vs Ford and GM...

But if few years ago CPM S90V was choosen - then ZDP189 may not make such a huge impact here now.

I don't think S30V was intended as a replacement for S90V, S90V is way more wear resistant. 9V is limited by a low hardness so the edge will dent/roll fairly easy.

Yes, Vassili, I agree with you. For the moment I am waiting for a Spyderco Bushcraft knife in S90V, and a Millie in S90V, to appear.
