Saber 16...?

Woulda made more sense to make the 15 the FFG model, if you ask me (which I realize, noone did).

I nearly sanded the FPR bilboard off of my 16, the signature is on it's way too. As soon as I can make it to someplace that carries sandpaper from 40 to 6k grits, and everything in between. should take that nasty laser engraving off.

It can be done, but it takes a hell of a long time, and hell of a lot more sand/emery (what I used) paper/cloth. And probably have to be really careful about not changing the thickness of the blade itself to much.

Doubt there will be a full run of them. Of course there are a few floating around.... There was even one given away to a very deserving Gathering attendee.

Nope, I wasn't deserving. I did not participate in the contest. I was more or less the photographer for the weekend. I need to get the pictures off the memory cards, tomorrow.

I believe that Spark is working on a Blade forums special release of a S30v BK-16 sabre ground at some point.
I could have a detail or 3 wrong, but I know that a Limited edition run has been discussed with KABAR and is in the works, but the time table may be a long one.

if someone ponies the money for 1000 or even 500, kabar might listen. that's mostly what it takes. big money :)

your individual cost would be high as well. not something many people seem to go for when considering Beckers - how many SMKW specials are left? look how long it took to sell out the BK10 LE even with incentives? mmm.

How high are we talkin' here? Even if it's $150 I wouldn't mind ponying up that money for an untouched S30V Saber 16, if for nothing other than to try out the steel.

BK15: 166
BK16: 76
BK17: 167

What do I win? :D

Really though, I think they'd have sold a lot more (sold out even?)by now if they didn't have the laser etching. At this point there isn't a lot of incentive to pay the $$$ since the production models are already out. The "only place to get a BK Short "TODAY" window is closed.

That being said I do see your point..... limited run, super steel...... $$$

Save a couple FPR 16s for me! I promised an out of country friend I'd pick one up and ship it to them, and I want one for my niece when she get's to high school!

I have a feeling SMKW will be sitting on the rest of their 16's and others for a good while still. They really screwed the pooch on that etching. I hope SOMEONE within their company has directed SMKW's attention over here so they can see why their stock isn't moving.

I have mine sitting in it's box still and these days I'm seeing it less and less of a collector's item and more and more like a knife I have that I should be using...

That's why I never pulled the trigger, just couldnt justify it in my mind

The only justification for the sabre grind other than fashion statement is strength......The lateral pull test we did on the sixteen indicates that there is plenty of strength in the ffg iteration.....I have not seen the vid but Witnesses said I got over thirty fiive degrees with minimal residual deformation......ie, a slight bend in the blade and still plenty usable......I was pretty happy with the results......I called it off at that point because it seemed pointless to continue to the breaking point....You can say that I wussed but, it seemed the thing to do at the time and I felt a cosmic screech through the ether that sounded like Tooj in extreme pain.......

In a sense the whole point of this blade is more scalpel than pry bar........The knife is slicy as all get out and that is what I was aiming for........Although it took a bit of oomph to get it to bend that much.....Mind Murph could have snapped it using a pinky?....But I am old and decrepit.....

All Best....

Murph's a wuss. :D

To me, I just preferred the saber over the ffg, purely looks wise. It reminded me of a mini BK2. I have no doubts the ffg is the better performer.

Honestly, it's your knife Mr. Becker, it's the knife you've been waiting for since before my oldest brother was born, and it's a great knife (I don't have it yet, but all indications say it is), and I'm honored you shared it with us.

But, the saber ground version is the knife of my dreams (until I get my hands on that 17 anyhow, or maybe the 1.... but anyhow), and I will fight for a sterile release of this until the day I die! If only for cosmetic purposes.

Now, where's my saber ground 11? :D

I don't doubt the streNgth at all. I just don't understand why the one people were most excited about (a mini BK2!) was the one chosen to be FFG. Especially when the other two are not. I already said this, but an FFG BK15 makes more sense to me. What the hell, I'm just one guy. From a sales standpoint, LOOKS are just as important as function to the end buyer. That Sabre grind 16 just looks so freakin cool.

Oh well....You can't always get what you want in life. I still have other Beckers left to get. Not getting the BK16 in saber grind was like the girl from Transformers 3 agreeing to sleep with me...then getting hit by a bus on the way over.

Also...as a chronic Jasco addict...the ffg just didn't sing to me stripped. Which is why I cliched it...then traded it for a BK7.

I think the FPR's would have made those that love a saber grind happy if they weren't etched to death. Wonder how cheap those are going to have to get in order to sell them?

DON'T LET SMKW PUT THEM ON SALE YET!!!

But seriously, the etching is what killed any and all sales of FPR tweeners, had they just put Ethan's signature on the flats, and skipped entirely on the FPR text, that would have sold a lot better, hell, they would have sold out in under a week if a few more BHs saw it.
