Which grind do you prefer on this 4" blade and why?

Traditional Sabre or False Edge

Blade is .165" think, edge is thin (.012") before virgin sharpen
Mid point of tapered False edge .050"
Primary bevel is 1.100", overall blade height is 1.375"
Blade is 4", OAL is 9"

Thanks,
Bradford

Aesthetically, I love that swedge. In a folder or EDC fixed blade I would choose the swedge in a heartbeat.
If I wanted to do bushcraft with the knife, I'd slightly prefer the traditional grind as it makes it a bit easier to baton.

Both are gorgeous blades though, I don't think you can go wrong with either grind. Great work!

Swedge. Looks better, and more "pokey". I constantly cut things every day at work that I have to poke the blade into first, then cut the material. More pokey = more utility in my case.

Sledge looks good for that size. Send one my way and I'll give it a whirl for my first edc fixed blade and I'll report back to ya how she's doin 😉.

I love you guys, truth be told when this project is finished in about 6 weeks, I would love to start a passaround thread and get this in your hands :)

Thank you all for the comments and input regarding the swedge vs. Sabre. It seems about 80/20 at this point.

Next question is regarding the finish. . . Do you prefer a traditional stonewash or more of the satin in the prototype pic?

Thanks!
Bradford

Either one is fine with me. I think satin blades look great. But on the other hand, stonewashed wears well. Doesn't show scratches as much. They just sort of blend in.

I think satin looks great, but I tend to lean more to stonewash for users since it doesn't show wear as much. Good question though. I wonder from a sales point of view though if the satin would sale better. You have no choice, you must do both ! 👍

Satin if the steel is carbon and tends to rust (less places for the rust to start). Stonewash on stainless steels. I agree with AntDog and Cross1178, I also think stonewash wears better when you use the knife.

Love to see pix when you get her done!!!

Swedge in stonewash. It's more pleasing to my eye.

Looks like a great piece, Bradford. I would definitely carry something like this.

I like that you carried the swedge all the way back to the jimping, really aesthetically pleasing!

If you market it for "combat" or throwing, swedge. For hunting and woods-work, I prefer the stouter drill-tip of the saber.

As to finish, i find a stone-wash stock with satin grind VERY appealing. Otherwise i am indifferent, either works to hide the irregular signs of use.

I think I really like the Satin bevels too, especially on the N690 material, the S30V material tended to get a brighter satin finish so I decided to tumble 100% of those.

Funny update, these blades are now released and the Sabre's are moving 6-4 over the swedge! Just thought you might want a real time update :)
