Saco River Canoe Trip NH to ME June 20-22nd

Somehow, no matter who I partner with, I always wind up doing most of the paddling from the rear. ]

Ha! My friend Miguel did about all the paddling from rear of our canoe; as I was fishing 90% of the time! Then I blamed him for poor boat handling when a good fish broke me off :D

One question... what was the blue tent in the first set of pictures?

That belongs to Marcelo(the head in the 2nd pic you quoted) I am sure he will chime in soon about it.

Nicely done!! Glad to see the boyz and girl having a great time on the water. Thanks for sharing. Was the water moving or was it a paddle fest?

Mike, we had a blast bro, you gotta make it for the next 1!

The water was moving, but not all that fast..

Somehow, no matter who I partner with, I always wind up doing most of the paddling from the rear. But it works out. When I need front power and steerage, I get to blame the bowman if we miss an eddy turn, broach on a drop or crash into a strainer! :D

Moar good pictures! Thanks! It looks like you all had a blast.

That is an EMS Milky Way that I bought in the nineties. It has served me phenomenally on every solo trip I've taken.

The trip was cool in every aspect.

Good stuff. The way you eat, you can come camping with me any time.

Pleasant Pond looks really nice.

Awesome pics Kev and Tony. Looks like you guys had a stellar trip. I really need to make it back East for one of these events....

Its been very damn hot and humid here lately. I was out at the Range yesterday with my boys and we had the whole place to ourselves. It was almost 100 degrees and miserably humid.. After a few hours went by a car pulled up and this guy walked up to me and said, "You know you love your hobby when youre out in this weather!" I replied, "Sometimes you gotta put up or shut up." Made me chuckle. Then we loaded up and spent the rest of the day swimming, practicing skills and fishing at this awesome spot we found waaay out in the boonies. We caught a mess of bluegill... Glad to see so many guys getting out and doing what they love.

Thanks for sharing the pics guys. Looks like a beautiful place. Anytime out is always a great time.

Looks like a great trip for Kevin and crew! We use to do similar trips up in WA and Canada when I was a teen and boy do I miss'em! We also did a chain of seven lakes...the portage between several was a bastid! It looks like you guys ate extremely well:D Thanks for sharing!

Thanks! This model seems to be discontinued. I like the design from what I can see. Glad it has served you well and thanks for answering my question.

I've had a few E-mails sent to me about this trip. Here are the answers to the questions for all to see and keep for future reference.

Fire permits are free and fires are allowed as long as they are not bonfires (I was told 3' was a bonfire)

Trash was pack in and pack out although there was plenty of litter in the river.

Sand was a problem with it getting in everywhere. You had to keep your gear clean and rinse it when you could.

Poison ivy was a big concern as it was everywhere but it is easily identifiable and avoidable.

No big game was sighted but tracks were everywhere and fresh.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the great pics of your trip! What were some of the other knives others brought? What type of fishing gear was brought along on your groups trip? Did the coolers keep things cool as I imagine the ice probably melted quick?

Lets see, knives; There was Blind Horse Knives Canterbury scandi, Kev was rocking a Custom Gossman and his Gossman Bolo, Marcelo had a Fiddleback Terrasaur, Miguel had my NWA Custom, Big John had an English made Bushcrafter, and I had a Fiddleback Arete, a David Farmer golok, and my ESEE/RC-5! Kev also had a BRKT modded Wetterlings axe, and Marcelo had a GB Hunter axe.

As far as fishing gear. I had a 6' Shimano ultra light with a Quantum PTI reel
and a 7' Shimano Compre with a Shimano Stradic reel. The lures of choice was inline spinners. I was fishing mostly with the 6lb test, which wasn't enough for some of the larger smallmouth and largemouth bass that lived in the river..

My cheap Coleman cooler kept things cool for the 1st 2 days, but the ice was all gone by day 3. It didn't help that some people didn't close the cooler after they took things out of it... By the way, I pack my ice in Ziploc bags inside the cooler.
