sacrelidge? heresy? maybe, but...

Now, I'm the kind of guy who realizes tastes differ, but I'm also stupidly curious. :o I'm not referring to Ruana or Bark River here, but most of my favourite knives have smaller handles than Busses and all have enough handle. I mean, what do you guys do with all that handle, like on the Active Duty? Or do you just have really large hands? That could explain it, because my hands aren't exactly large. Everyone says I have small girly hands. :D

My hand just barely fits between the two talons on a ASH1 in a hammer grip. A saber grip even on the ASH1 is uncomfortable to the point I may have the rear talon ground down on my user.

Dhamn! I guess that's why you like big handles! Your hand must be near twice as large as mine. :foot: Now I figure we can both be glad Busse makes both knives with large handles and knives with smaller ones. Busse handles may tend to be large, but they're not so large that I couldn't comfortably used them, so I figure everyone wins. Well, except for those ultralight backpacking type of guys. :D

It will be next to identical to the FSH which, IMO, was about to be the next SFNO on the Secondary Market. 130% mark-ups ain't cool. The Boss man just saved a bunch of us loyal Hogs from trecherous after-market activities and fulfilled our 8" of INFI/SF handle fix in one move. Once again, a genius manouver on Boss Hog's part and only down-played by the vocal minority. I think it's fine if everyone complains and moans about it but I support Jerry's decision.

Many here support Jerry's decisions even if an offered knife is not one that we are jumping through the hoops to obtain. From salmon cheesecake to vastly increasing the amount of INFI in the public sector, it's all good.

As for me, and I suspect I speak for many who choose to be silent, the only "treacherous after-market activities" that I will be engaging in is that I WON'T be offering up my original-length SFNO to anyone (except maybe the kids when I get really old). Some will be glad for that in that they won't be tempted; others will unhappy that the original-length SFNOs will become harder to find (and probably more expensive) over time regardless of what Jerry offers today or tomorrow. YMMV.

Isn't that contradictory though?
He saved the FSH market from becoming the SFNO market...
Keeping the blade at 7" could have potentially cut back on the 200% SFNO mark ups.

Personally, I love the look of the knife for the most part even though it does look out of sorts. I prefer machined grips. If I lived in a more woodsy area where I'd need a dedicated chopper, I'd still buy a LE. But as far as this one goes I gotta pass.

Pleasing everyone is impossible. There's going to be knives Jerry makes that I don't like, that you don't like, but that's just the way it is and we still respect him as a maker anyways.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, for me a 7"+/- bladed clip or drop point knife is my ideal camping and trail knife when I'm going to be gone more than 2 or 3 days. For those 4-6 hour trek to the campsite, set up, spend 2 nights and pack out the third day the big ones are a joy to have but if you are on the move for 3-5 days I prefer the 7" range. Most of the time each person makes his or her own personal shelter for the night, (unless you can just sleep under the stars) but the group I used to do weekend long camping with would made a communal shelter, not always 100% primitive. You are not always going to need 8 ft. tall supports for a big shelter-half and 8-10 nice pointy stakes to tie off to. But when you are building a 'living room' in the wild for weather protection and creature comfort that big chopper sails through the setup chores. I hate to think that it's been about 5 years since I've made a real trek but at least I'm ready !!

If you make it to Blade, you should know that Mike is the 7-foot landmark in front of the Busse booth. Small planes use him to navigate.

Maybe he'll let me climb on his shoulders so I could reach over all the other hogs and snatch the best INFI before they get their mittens on it. :D

I think that Jerry has only one obligation to the aftermarket. When he says that a knife is a one-time only offering he should stick by it, and always has. Other than that, why should he worry about the effect an 8"SFNO has on the FBM aftermarket? He has never said that the 7" SFNO was a one-time shot, only that the LE's would not be offered again in the configuration offered, so the 7" model may yet be seen again.

Should he have not brought out the ASH1 because of it's possible effect on the value of the original ATS-34 SH1? I for one as the owner of two original SH1's was delighted at the chance to get a few in INFI, and I doubt that the value of the original has been seriously affected.
