Sad Day for Alox...

Does anyone know if the old cross blades are different than the modern alox models?
I see this as a perfect opportunity to have a custom blade or a GEC blade installed. :D

I have seen it done before. Although, I would guess it takes a bit of modifying of the GEC blade..... but hey, a 1095 clip blade in a SAK old cross seems like one of the coolest things ever to me.

I would die for one!

Drill out the pins and find a replacement blade. If you search the forums, you can find replacement screws that will work with SAK mods.

I bet that got your attention. Might try searching an auction site for a donor knife to replace the blade. It isn't too difficult to do yourself. A check of a video site can yield tutorials on how to do it.

Good luck, and try not to become the Flash again.

So you would buy a $100 knife in order to cannibalize a blade. Then pay major bucks to a cutler, all in order to fix a $35 knife?

Doesn't sound particularly cool to me, but hey, knock yourself out.

Yes, I cut copper wire with my knife, it is sharp, wire is not that thick that I cut. My mistake was not double checking that I unplugged the correct wire, hence my warning to others. Embarrasing yes, but if it keeps only one other person from making that mistake, I am ok with it
Thanks for all of tbe concern for my well being, the circuit breaker did its job!
Emails sent to the two that were referred, awaiting reply.
This is my dirty work knife, if too much $ for stock replacement, will leave as is and continue to use it as suggested. Thanks for all the info!

Copper isn't that hard either.
I made a favorite screwdriver look like OP knife, but that had an insulated handle.

I sent my first SAK back to Vic about 15 years ago; it was 35 years old at the time. They replaced the scissors with some bigger ones that still fit in the handle, ground a chip out of the little hawksbill, replaced the bail I had broken by crushing it in a vise, and fiddled/replaced the toothpick and tweezers so they fit in the handle again.

15 years. Maybe it's time I sent them the one I put through a beverage can compactor.

Wow, I bet that woke you up more than an entire pot of coffee could. Glad you weren't hurt.

So your new nickname at work is "flash"?

Those sorts of events do make you take a deep breath when they happen. (as well as eliciting a few short words that likely can't be repeated here.) Been there. Done that. Although in my case it was a screwdriver that slipped and touched something it shouldn't have.

Glad it's only the knife that took the zap.
I would rather have taken the hit than that lovely old cross. Then again I'm an electrician and that sort of thing happens on a somewhat regular basis. :D
