I wasn't going to post this, because it seems so minuscule compared to people losing their human loved ones, but I'm really bummed out & wanted to get it off my chest.

Yesterday I had to have my youngest cat euthanized. She was only 9 & 1/2 years old.She had a very agressive cancer & had been suffering(not eating/wasting away) for the past 2 months. This is the first time I had to do this & it wasn't easy, but I think I did the right thing. The Vet(a good friend of mine)assured me that no matter how much money I had,I couldn't save her.
We got her from an abusive household when she was very young. She was always a little skittish from that, but she warmed up to us through the years. My wife named her Lil' Puss, because she was the runt of the litter. She was so tiny when we got her(under a pound). With a lot of love & good food, she got up to 17lbs this past Summer.

Here's a pic of her over the Summer, when she was healthy.

I am deeply sorry to hear that!! Hugs to you!! Our dog and cats are our children. It is heart breaking when one has to do that. We just had to put our 20 year old cat down on Saturday.

Here is a poem that has helped me through difficult times like this.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

That is sad. I have had to have 2 cats "put to sleep" over the years, and both times it was very hard. They ARE a member of the family.

I'm very sorry for your loss.:(.

Sorry for your loss.

I have had to put two dogs down one that was 14 and another at 15.
It hurt and it still does.

But be thankful you can put them out of their pain.

They went with love in my arms not in pain in a foreign place.

You did the right thing.
You loved them so much you took the pain away and bear it in your heart.

As someone who owned and loved a wonderful cat, I can empathize. So sorry for your loss. My cat helped me through many difficult times and we were sad to see him go too. Condolences. :(

Hopefully time will help heal the pain :(

Pets are part of the family, not like a child is... But they ARE a family member! Cute cat too

I've had to do this several tomes over the years....It never gets any easier.

Just realize that it was for the best and that if our pets could talk they would be thanking us for loving them enough to give them mercy.

Our Last two cats went in this exact same manner, they were both old timers at approximately 16 years, but it was cancer that made them waste away, both let us know when they wanted to go and the wife and i took them to the vet and calmly as possible loved them all the way to the end.

That's really too bad JTR, she was a beautiful feline. Sorry for your loss. I had to put down a cat and a dog within the space of a year and they left a huge hole in our home. I also echo the words of thefifth; relieving her pain was the best thing to do, especially when you can be there to ease the transition.

My wife was looking over my shoulder when your cat's picture came up, she couldn't read what you had written, but she said "ohhhhh what a pretty cat". Then I read what you had written, we've both lost pets and share your loss. You may have other pets in your life, but you'll never forget the ones you love. Your fond memories will get you through the rough days.

Yep . . . part of the family is right. My kids and and my wife and I have a storehouse of memories as our family has grown and the kids have grown up that all involve our various furry and feathered family members. Hardly a picture exists that doesn't include a current or former pet/family member in it.

It's the memories that count. I hope knowing you gave her a second chance at a wonderful life brings you and yours some comfort during this difficult time.

My condolences on the loss of your cherished pal.

I offer my condolences on your loss. Our family had to put down our cat of 20 years about five your ago. It was a sad day for us.
I wish you and your family well at this time.

Dan

You and your family have my sincere condolences. It is always hard to loose a family pet and friend.

Thank you all for your kind & encouraging words. You guys are the best:thumbup:
My big Tomcat's been looking all over the place for her.I can hear him howling(yes a cat howling!) up & down the hallway all night.Poor guy's lost/heartbroken.:(She wouldn't give him the time of day most of the time, just seemed like she didn't like him,but he adored her.
They grew up together since they were kittens. We used to love watching them stalking eachother, play fighting,wrestling...etc.
One part that really sticks in my head was on the eve of Thanksgiving of 2000.Everyone was asleep, when we heard a loud THUD.I got up & found them two going to town on that raw turkey. They slit open the packaging with their claws & were just trying to eat as much as they could, before they got caught.I was laughing as I grabbed one in each hand & said "so you couldn't wait til tomorrow huh?"I'll never forget that.

Here's a couple of pics of my big Tomcat. His name's Cal.The first year of his life was spent with a couple of dogs,so he acts like a dog a lot. He's got quite a personality!
