Been awhile since I posted, don't talk much anyway. This past Saturday I ended up sacrificing my 12 year old Benchmade AFCK to those who dwell beneath the waters:grumpy:.Anyone know a good replacement from them? I was also looking at the Kershaw JYDII.I'm gonna miss that knife.:(.

Check out eBay listings for a genuine replacement.

And don't give up on your knife! I once lost the Schrade stockman that I've had since high school in a local lake. Two years later, I got my SCUBA certification. Later on, I found myself diving in the same location where I lost the knife. I surfaced to get reference and started searching. I found it!!! What are the odds?

It looked pretty bad but cleaned up very well. The blades are now very dark in color and the one that was open has a weird pattern on it that looks sort of like Damascus.

If you're bent on a new Benchmade to replace it, I'd recommend the 710 D2 or the 943, both Axis locks. The 943 has a blade shape similar to the AFCK.

Good luck,
desmobob

I can feel your pain! In the past 7 years, I lost two Spyderco Delicas in the sea at the same spot while catching crabs. I am carrying the third one now.

shengg, may I suggest switching to the Byrd line of knives when crabbing. It will be a lot cheaper to replace.

I had a mini-AFCK live in the bilge of a sailboat for about a year before it was found. Looked fine!

If you're going to be around water a lot, look at the Salt line from Spyderco. I would either experiment with a lanyard or some sort of floating thingy that will support the weight of the knife.

redsst, I have a stainless CaraCara, kind of bulky, gave it to my wife's friend and she is using it in Kenya now (she is a Ph.D in biochemistry doing peace corps there). I guess I should get some other Byrd models.
ashtxsniper, thanks for the great idea! I never used a lanyard before, will try one!
