Sad Story of Found Knife

Guadalcanal was bad enough, and then he went to Tarawa Beachhead. That is tough duty. I'm glad he's finally back home and bless him for his service.

I saw this memorial in a cemetery a couple of towns north of where I live recently. It was on a little loop road out in the country that you would never drive unless you lived on the road, or if you knew the cemetery was there and wanted to visit it. Seems appropriate to post here. God bless all those who fight for freedom, and may George Traver RIP.

Thanks for sharing this, I'm glad they included a shot of the knife. Cool story!

Not sad at all - a joyous occasion, that the knife helped ID a fallen solder who could be brought to his final resting place.

Yeah that's how I felt. A soldier finally found and ID'd all because of his special knife. Cool stuff

That reminds me of a knife that ID'ed a German submarine . The sub was found off the NJ coast ,very deep ,a dangerous dive . The sub originally was said to be destroyed off the North Africa coast .Some evidence said the same sub was found off NJ. -- They recovered a few things from the NJ sub which included a sailor's knife , with initials carved into the handle. That in turn the sailor's name and showed he was a crewmember of the sub .So the sub never sank off Africa but sank later off NJ !
