Saddle springs and ring locks

Kootenay Joe, I'd bet my lunch money that your knife (known as a Catalan pattern) was made in Italy, likely by the Campolin family (or one of the few other pillars of that community), who have been at it for generations. Very nice! Thank you for posting.

Brother Jim, your photo isn't showing up for me... what have you got there?

Tim, I like that, going to have to add it to my lexicon. ;)

Duane, great mods to the Lierenaar! Simple yet effective, in the spirit of the knife itself.

Andi, perhaps you could direct me to a source for my own Lierenaar?

Really good stuff here, folks. :)

Puukkoman, thanks so much for the very specific info on my big Catalan knife. I got this from the estate of a fellow who specialized in collecting pre WW I German folders. He traveled through much of Europe in the late 1960's up to late 1970's and bought the German folders in Solingen when many knife factories were closing down. He bought other knives elsewhere in Europe when he thought they were of fine quality and were 'special' in some way. Hence your suggestion of Campolin family is quite likely correct.

I didn't realize anyone had trouble viewing pics I post. I use google+ to host my pics and of course I can see them. Yours is the first mention of them not showing up.

It's a Cold Steel Kudu. I really like this knife.

PUUKKO...Here you go mate...Heres the old girl next to a spanish lever lock of low quality...French knife is 15 1/2 oal, with a 7 inch blade...If you hold knife correctly and flick your wrist it will open fully, due to weight of blade and how lock is cammed..Could be an early one hander maybe ???.....Fes
