Safe or Out?

I have close to 70 knives, and only 1 of them never gets used. It's around only 15 years old, but it's my most favorite knife.

I think that you can see why I don't use it.
Other than this one knife, every other knife that I own gets used as intended.
I see knives as they should be seen, as tools. You don't buy a ratchet to hang on the wall and look at do you? You wouldn't hang a crescent wrench next to a Picasso would you?
-nope.

Yet at the same time there are those possessions that hold more sentimental value than nominal value. This knife was given to me by my father when I was 10 or 11, and is entirely responsible for my knife collection from that point onward. Yes I do have snazzier knives than this one, but it is because of this one that I have them.

I dont' blame people for keeping some of their knives in the safe, but I personally buy for use. That may change if my tastes get super expensive.

I buy a lot of Busses, and use only a few. I enjoy the quest, like over several years finally accumulating a perfect set of un-blemished Busse Zero Tolerance series.
I like to have them, to handle them, to take care of them.
IMO, I would be foolish to set out to deliberately use all of them, since given the quantity each one would get only a very limited use.

Some people buy a lot of high-end watches. I have been perfectly happy wearing the same old Swiss Army watch for the last 14 years. Some people collect stamps or cigar bands, which is incomprehensible to me. I have a pretty good collection of pristine slide rules, for heaven's sake! Don't intend to ever use one again.

I like my knife collection. It makes me feel good. Accumulating it is fun. It's my money and my wife, and as long as she and I are ok with it, there ain't one dang thing wrong with any of it!

"....My ex-sister-in-law thought she was going to make a bundle when Beenie Babies were the rage. She had a trunk full of them. She was sure she would be able to unload them and be rich. She waited too long and they ended up being worth less than she paid for them...."

The fishing here is fantastic! You don't even have to put a smilie on the hook to bait it! ;);););););););)
