Safe

Just a quick thought about a product I use in my 2 forges. I also have it under my big forge on my wooden work bench...never smoldered or burned through. If you buy enough, you could wrap your safe in it. I bought a big box of it off ebay several years ago...enough to line about 30 forges...or wrap about 1/2 a big gun safe...for $50 shipped.

.

Will research that more Scott! More along the lines of what I am looking for. I wonder if it would protect from the water steam issue?

I have a friend whose home burned several years ago and this is exactly what happened to his firearms in two safes, and it did indeed occur within less than one hour.

This doesn't sound good. Now about that bunker...:D

You might want to check with your manufacturer as to the manner in which your safe offers protection from fire. Apparently, the protectant in most (but I don't think all) fire proof safes actually contains "moisture" (not sure if its water) which is supposed to turn into steam with the increased heat, hence giving the fire protection. If that's the case, the steam (moisture) is already internalized so an exterior protectant might not help all that much. Just a thought!
