Anyone have experience with those breakaway connectors on paracord necklaces? I'm looking for something that is gonna last and ideally be able to withstand 10 lbs of pull but the more the better. Thanks for any insight.

I haven't seen any that will withstand much pressure at all. I would suggest a cord lock with the cord ends threaded opposite through the lock, so if you pull, it has some resistance from the cord lock, but will pull out completely under sufficient pressure. It's how I wear my paracord necklace with my whistle, flashlight, firesteel, etc on it.

I've always used ss ball chain. Proper gauge and/or ss connecter will give good combination of strength and breakaway.

Hello Mr Sastre. Yes Ive been meaning to look into some heavier duty ones as the ones knife kits sells are pretty week. But I gotta admit, I personally cant stand them as my chest hair gets stuck in them and am not much for the cold steel on my flesh :p

Second on the ball chain, it's what I use a very stiff tug will break it loose but strong enough that it won't come under without noticing it.

Remove the guts from some paracord and "sleeve" the chain, leaving ss connecter exposed. Then melt the ends of the paracord sleeve nearest the connecter to keep it in place. I've personally not had any problems using bare chain and do have hair on my chest.

So, I took a quick picture of the necklace, showing how I have the cord lock on it. Sorry for the crappy pic, it's from my cell phone:

It's not uncomfortable and I haven't had any issues with it in the last 2 years wearing it on a daily basis.

Chris many thanks for taking the time sir! Gonna have to source some of those and give them a whirl.

Thanks guys, if anyone else has a method they like to use please chime in.

Cheers

I believe I got a box of 4 for $.40 (forty cents) at the one, the only, Wally World!

Camping section - cord locks. If they don't have the round ones, you might check another or try an REI.

Got a couple of side release buckles for ID badge lanyards that had to be break away per company rules. The ones I used are meant for cat collars.

I have used the safety ones before, and have had them let loose very unexpectedly. I was disappointed

This is a good idea

I have seen heat shrink tubing used and it works pretty well and gives a nice finished look. It will give when pulled hard but is quite strong , you will have to test out lengths and such to see what works for you. Make sure you butt the cord inside the heath shrink tubing and don`t overlap the ends or it might be too strong.
