O.K. ONE MORE TIME ALWAYS WEAR YOUR SAFETY GLASSES

Wednesday I was working in the shop doing a couple things at once as usual,I went from putting together a carburator to forging out some cable.Somehow I left my safety glasses on top of my head when I went back for the next heat. The last hammer blow sent a peice of hot scale right at my left eye!!!! Luckily I caught it with my eyelid and did not lose my eye:eek: That is about as close as a guy can get to putting out an eye.I had to peel a peice of scale off of my eyelid!!!:barf:

Wow, you're lucky Joe !

Yeah, without a doubt, the single most important piece of equipment. Essential equipment even.....

I got used to wearing safety glasses when I was in manufacturing. Now it`s a habit, so I always remember. I also wear steel toe shoes, you never know when a hunk of steel might drop.

good advice,
being a 4 eyed glasses in daily life, I am sometimes suprised when i realize that stuff has bounced off my glasses.

After a while the safety glasses become second nature. I have even gotten in the habit of wearing them when I'm mowing the lawn. I feel a little naked without them.

I'm that way about my seat belt, too. I actually can't drive without putting it on. I feel unsettled without it, so I'm not even tempted to not wear it.

I wear safety glasses that have a piece of slag melting into one of the lenses. Just to keep myself humble about safety

i got my warning working with bronze. Had a sliver jam into the white of my eye. It feels like somebody is scraping the inside of your eyelid and makes it really watery.
My vision deformed when the doc used tweezers to get it out.

When I got my grinder setup I tried a bit of steel just to see how it felt and literally the very first thing that happened was a big chunk of forge scale flew off and hit me right in the eyelid.

It was such a random dumb luck kind of moment, I feel so lucky in that all my accidents end up like that, bad enough to scare some sense into me but no permanent damage so far!
